Canadian border guards at Roosville border walk off job
    Feb, 02 2006 - 8:10 AM

CRANBROOK/CKNW(AM980) - More Canadian border guards concerned about their safety have walked off the job.

It happened this morning at the Roosville crossing south of Cranbook after an alert was issued about an armed and dangerous man from the US possibly trying driving a stolen car into this country.
    The border remains open.
Paula shore with the Canada Border Services Agency says the un-armed officers have the right to refuse to work if they feel their lives are in danger, so the crossing is now being guarded by managers.

A similar incident happened last week when two armed fugitives from California were arrested near the Peace Arch Crossing.

    Another run for the border
    February 02, 2006 - 6:36 am

It looks like another US criminal has made a run for the Canadian border. It happened this morning in Roosville in southeastern BC along the Montana border.

Police in the States were chasing a suspect when he dumped his car. At last word, they still haven't caught the guy. Just like last month when two fugitives tried to get into Canada at the Peace Arch crossing, the unarmed border guard has left her post over safety concerns.
