    Carpentersville makes English official

    http://www.dailyherald.com/news/cooksto ... c=c&tc=&t=

Carpentersville trustees passed a resolution Tuesday night declaring English the village’s official language.

Amid cheers, boos and hisses from the more than 100 people who packed the board room, trustees amended the declaratory ordinance to read as a resolution.

But don’t expect anything to change now that trustees have approved the measure by a 5-2 vote.

Since the measure is in the form of a resolution, or non-binding, the village will continue to provide a number of documents and conduct village business in languages other than English, village leaders said.

Regardless of the label, Trustee Judy Sigwalt said the measure’s adoption equals success.

“Even though a resolution is just fluff, we are still making a statement,â€

Well now, my little corner of Illinois is making the news. Waukegan is going after 287g powers. Carpentersville will have English as an offical language. The city next to us is looking into 287g as well.

Oh, and then Cook County/Chicago voted to become a sanctuary county.
