In October, CBP reported 230,678 migrant encounters — the highest ever for the month as Title 42's fate looms

U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officials have experienced more than 500,000 migrant encounters since Oct. 1, sources tell Fox News.

The total migrant encounters reached 575,409 as of Dec. 22, Fox News’ Griff Jenkins reported, citing people familiar with the matter.

The National Border Patrol Council, a union that represents approximately 18,000 border patrol agents, said there were 209,000 migrant apprehensions in November. This would be the highest number ever recorded in the month of November.

Fox News Digital was not able to corroborate this figure, as the
Biden administration has not released official data.

The figure comes as the Biden administration has not yet reported an official number of migrant encounters, despite being more than 23 days into December. Experts anticipate border encounters for the month of November to be over 200,000, or near that of the record-setting October sum.

We are 22 days into December and the Biden admin still hasn’t released border numbers for November. The Border Patrol union says agents had 209,000 migrant apprehensions in November. That would be highest November ever recorded, right after border just saw highest October ever.

How do you spell insanity?

Results of Biden border policies, just in November:

209k arrests by BP
67k expelled under Title
42142k processed under Title 8 and RELEASED
73k known border zone escapes
16.5k known interior zone escapes

It has to stop!

In October, CBP reported 230,678 migrant encounters — the highest ever for the month.
The remaining 344,731 migrant encounters for November and the early part of December would likely also set a record.

Of those who were met by CBP officials so far this fiscal year, approximately 177,818 were expelled under Title 42 – a
Trump-era immigration policy that reduced the number of asylum seekers the U.S. allowed under the COVID-19 pandemic, which was set to expire on Dec. 21.

The Biden administration on Tuesday asked the U.S. Supreme Court to allow the pandemic-era policy to come to end but requested a delay until after Christmas.

In a filing on Tuesday, the administration said the end of Title 42 will likely lead to "disruption and a temporary increase in unlawful border crossings" but nonetheless asked the court to allow Title 42 to expire.

U.S. Border Patrol officials issue a last-minute warning to migrants about the freeze that is expected to last through Monday.

“Extremely cold, below-freezing temperatures are expected along the Mexico and United States border during the next several days,” Hugo Carmona, Acting Associate Chief of US Border Patrol Operations, said in a video released by U.S. Customs and Border Protection. “Do not risk your life and that of your loved ones trying to cross the river or the desert. Help avoid human death and tragedy, stay home or remain in a safe shelter. This is a warning of extreme importance.”

Some migrants are able to be admitted to shelters not funded by federal dollars, but hundreds remain on the city streets.

Opportunity Center Deputy Director John Martin told CNN he asked city officials to open the convention center to “undocumented migrants” for at least the next two days. His requests appear to have fallen on deaf ears.

“My biggest fear is somebody is not going to wake up tomorrow morning,” Martin told the CNN reporter. “I hope that I am absolutely wrong.”

Overnight temperatures in El Paso fell to a record-low 18 degrees overnight.

Operators of the federally funded shelters, which includes the city-run shelters, are only allowed to admit migrants who have documentation from Border Patrol. Migrants who crossed the border and did not turn themselves in to Border Patrol for processing are being turned away and directed to surrender for processing.

“Three men, who did not want to be identified, told CNN they have been expelled from the US multiple times in recent weeks and no longer want to turn themselves into border authorities because they have been refused legal entry so many times,” the CNN report states. “The men say they crossed the Rio Grande and passed through border barriers without being detected by border agents.”
