(Thursday, August 20, 2009)

Sault Ste Marie, Mich. – On August 19, CBP officers and Border Patrol agents discovered a lone undocumented Canadian male inside an empty rail car of a Canadian National train. Denis Powers was detained and transported to the Chippewa County Jail, pending further action.

CBP officers discovered Mr. Powers while performing inspections of the inbound train. Officers were alerted to the presence of a suspicious object in an empty rail car and quickly notified Border Patrol agents, who routinely assist with inspecting arriving trains.

Mr. Powers surrendered to authorities peacefully and was lodged in the Chippewa County Jail.

Port Director Devin Chamberlain says, “This is an excellent example on how CBP officers and Border Patrol agents are working together to secure our nations border.â€
