    CBP Officers Apprehend Man Wanted on $4 Million Warrant for Attempted Murder

    (Monday, January 23, 2012)
    San Ysidro, Calif. – U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers at the San Ysidro port of entry over the weekend apprehended a 29-year old fugitive with an outstanding felony warrant for attempted murder, with bail set at $4 million.

    On Saturday, January 21, at about 2:00 a.m., Jose Zapata, Jr., a U.S. citizen, entered the port as a pedestrian. The CBP officer queried Zapata’s information in law enforcement databases and was alerted that he was wanted. Zapata was escorted to a secure location for further investigation.

    CBP officers conducted a ten-print query utilizing the Integrated Automated Fingerprint Identification System (IAFIS) confirming Zapata’s identity and that he was wanted for attempted murder by the Downey Police Department, located in southeast Los Angeles County, California.

    CBP officers turned Zapata over to detectives with the Downey Police Department.
