(Friday, January 20, 2012)
Hidalgo, Texas – U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers at the Hidalgo port of entry apprehended a man on an arrest warrant for sexual assault from McAllen, Texas.
On Thursday, January 19, a CBP officer’s query on primary at the Hidalgo International Bridge resulted in a referral of a man identified as Gerardo Elizondo, 20, a United States citizen who resides in McAllen, Texas for a secondary examination. A CBP officer’s secondary checks of a national database revealed a possible active warrant for sexual assault for Elizondo. CBP officers confirmed the active warrant for Gerardo Elizondo with pending charges related to a case from the McAllen Police Department for sexual assault. CBP officers arrested Elizondo and subsequently turned him over to the custody of the McAllen Police Department. Gerardo Elizondo was transported to the McAllen city jail and will face pending charges.
“Hidalgo CBP officers apprehended this wanted fugitive for an alleged sexual assault as he attempted to enter the country. I commend our officers for their outstanding service and vigilance in stopping this wanted man at the border," said Efrain Solis, port director, Hidalgo/Pharr/Anzalduas.
