Over Easter Weekend, CBP Officers Seize $468,000 in Meth at Brownsville Port
(Monday, April 05, 2010)
Brownsville, Texas – U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers at the Brownsville and Matamoros International Bridge seized approximately $468,000 worth of methamphetamine discovered in a vehicle seeking to enter the United States over the busy Easter weekend.
On Sunday, April 4, at the Brownsville and Matamoros International Bridge, a primary CBP officers’ inspection of a white 1996 Ford Ranger driven by a 22-year-old Mexican male who resides in Matamoros, Tamaulipas, Mexico resulted in the driver and vehicle being referred for a secondary examination. At secondary CBP officers discovered 24 packages containing a combined total weight of 14.15 kilograms (31.2 pounds) of methamphetamine hidden within the back wall of the Ford Ranger.
The methamphetamine from this seizure has an estimated street value of $468,000. CBP officers referred the matter to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement special agents for further investigation.
“Brownsville CBP officers have stopped a significant amount of methamphetamine from entering our borders. Our officers are constantly training and enhancing their inspectional skills; this load of narcotics is the result of their dedication to our mission. This is a great seizure and another outstanding outcome by Brownsville’s CBP officers,â€NO AMNESTY
