Cheney’s SonInLaw Blamed for Delaying Investigations of DHS

    http://thinkprogress.org/2007/02/06/per ... -security/

The Department of Homeland Security refuses to cooperate on oversight activities, according to testimony offered today by GAO Comptroller General David Walker and Homeland Security Inspector General Richard Skinner. The investigators highlighted the role of Philip Perry — Chief Counsel of the Department of Homeland Security and Vice President Cheney’s son-in-law — as the major stumbling block in their investigations.

Walker said the DHS strategy in dealing with investigations is to “delay, delay, delay.” CongressDaily reports:

“[Homeland Security] has been one of our persistent access challenges,” GAO Comptroller General David Walker told the House Homeland Security Appropriations Subcommittee. Walker said the problem is “systemic” and not the fault of any single individual. But he complained that GAO has had to go through the office of Chief Counsel Philip Perry. Perry is married to Elizabeth Cheney, a former State Department official who is one of the vice president’s two daughters. Walker said it is his understanding that Perry’s office has to review documents GAO seeks before they are released and that Perry selectively sits in on interviews with department employees.

The GAO’s Skinner “said his investigations have also been hindered”:

“We’re experiencing the same problem,” said Skinner, who added his office is “oftentimes” told who they can interview and that it sometimes takes weeks to get documents. Skinner said he prepared a document last summer to inform all department employees of the IG’s responsibilities and authorities and encouraging them to cooperate with investigations. “That letter has been sitting up in counsel’s office at DHS since I believe June or July of ‘06,” Skinner said.

The news is another in a series of black eyes for the agency. In a recent federal survey, DHS employees “scored last or almost last in job satisfaction, leadership and workplace performance.” The latest semiannual report from Inspector General Skinner highlighted “a litany of staff misconduct: immigration officials demanding sex in exchange for visas, airport screeners stealing money from tourists’ luggage, federal air marshals smuggling drugs, and employees from various DHS agencies committing sex crimes.”

Remember that Skinner is the DHS employee who admitted to Culberson that they had MISLED congress on the investigations of Ramos and Compean. Is Phil Perry responsible???

Exposing the Dept. of Job Security

Perry’s questionable behavior extends far beyond nepotism and delaying investigations. He’s also a pro at jumping back and forth between government and the private sector, doing what he can to benefit industry along the way. After Bush became president, Perry moved from being a junior partner at the DC law firm Latham & Watkins to holding the position of Associate-Attorney General for the Department of Justice. He then moved to the Office of Management and Budget as General Counsel, where he had a hand in drafting plans for DHS. In 2003, he returned to Latham & Watkins as a member of their Homeland Security practice group and lobbied on behalf of Lockheed Martin and other companies. ____________________

Earlier an article was posted by Blackhorse with this comment: I tuned in late to hear ANDY RAMIREZ- FRIENDS OF THE BORDER PATROL and it sounds like one of the investigators in the Ramon & Compean case is with the Homeland INSECURITY and is the SON-IN-LAW of V.P. CHEYNEY!!!!?

From what we've found, it appears Philip Perry may have also been involved with the Ramos/Compean prosecution and resulting 'confusion' over statements, testimony, investigation by Homeland Security. Perry resigned this month to 'spend more time with family'.

Remember Skinner is the one who admitted to congressmen last week that Homeland Security had 'misled them' about statements Ramos and Compean made to the Homeland security investigator.

Perry's wife Elizabeth, was #2 at the State Dept for Mid eastern affairs.

Family members of senior politicans should not be involved in the federal government. Many senior member of the federal government are friends or relatives of congressmen, senators, or in the white house. this has been going on for years. Many senior people in DoD are from the Clinton Administration while in other federal agencies they are from the Bush administration. Can anyone not understand why America is a mess.

There is nothing new about investigations being delayed. Remember boxes of disappearing items under Clinton. All federal agencies try to keep the IG out their business to look at good as possible. When dealing with the IG, assumptions are made by management which will make them look good. The problems that Skinner is having in nothing new the federal government and has been going on for at least the last twenty years.

It must be nice to be one of the Elite who can find such great jobs for their family ...while the send our sons and daughters husbands and wives to die for them in foreign countries...and when our folks come home find that they have no jobs because criminal aliens have the jobs that Americans do not want...
Never look at another flag. Remember, that behind Government, there is your country, and that you belong to her as you do belong to your own mother. Stand by her as you would stand by your own mother
