Companies to forfeit $1.5 million for immigration violations

    Associated Press

LONDON, Ky. - Two Kentucky companies were sentenced Friday to forfeit $1.5 million for money laundering and harboring illegal aliens for commercial purposes.

Asha Ventures and Narayan LLC will also serve 12 months of probation.

The two companies pleaded guilty in July to one count each of money laundering and one count of conspiracy to conceal, harbor or shield aliens. As part of the plea, the companies agreed to the forfeiture.

Prosecutors said the companies were hiring illegal aliens to work at the Holiday Inn Express, the Days Inn Motel, the Days Inn Motel, the Sleep Inn and the Super 8 Motel in London.

The companies were harboring illegal aliens and encouraging the illegal aliens to remain in the United States, prosecutors said.

The two companies sometimes paid the illegal workers by checks made payable to fictitious companies, then cashed at the hotel upon whose account the checks were drawn with the worker being given cash, prosecutors said.

Okay, we have convictions, now what about the folks that did the hiring? How much time are they doing behind bars?

Couldn't the $1.5 million be used to hire more ICE people for KY?

I'm with you MW, what about jail time for employers?

And what about penalties for the motels where the illegals worked? They're just as guilty as the suppliers.
