Paul Schiffer, Congressional Candidate in Ohio's 16th Congressional District, has taken the pledge of the American Council for Immigration Reform to oppose amnesty in any form for illegal aliens, and to push for the enforcement of America's immigration laws, with the goal that trespassers in the United States will voluntarily return to the countries where they have a home and a place of their own. Paul Schiffer pledged:

"I pledge to oppose amnesty or any other special path to citizenship for the millions of foreign nationals unlawfully present in the United States. As a member of Congress, I will support the full implementation of enforcement measures that, over time, will lead to the attrition of our illegal immigrant population. I also pledge to make security of our borders a top priority."

Schiffer clarified: "Which immigrant will make a better future citizen? Someone who shows respect for America's laws or one who shows no respect and only contempt?

There is no comparison between law-abiding immigrants who come here legally and honorably to become U.S. citizens and those who steal across the border illegally and trample our laws. We honor and respect those legal immigrants who show respect for the laws of the country they wish to join.

America's immigration laws should give at least as great a priority on foreigners who follow the legal way to apply to come to the U.S., are law-abiding and honest as to those who knowingly and willfully break America's immigration laws and once here, show contempt for any of America's laws.

As ANCIR's pledge makes clear, illegal aliens who return to their home country may re-apply to legally enter the United States, but should not be given any preferential treatment as a result of breaking American immigration laws over other immigrants who have followed the legal process and are law-abiding and honest individuals."
