Convicted Felon’s Bike Ride Through Douglas, Ariz. Port Thwarted

Douglas, Ariz. - U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers at the Douglas, Ariz. port of entry apprehended a convicted felon as he attempted to enter the United Sates by avoiding inspection.

Sunday at about 3:30 p.m., a man who was identified as a Mexican national attempted to enter the United Sates by riding his bicycle through a vehicle lane that had been closed to traffic. A CBP officer screening traffic in the adjacent lane noticed that the cyclist was attempting to avoid inspection by running the port. The officer responded and was able to apprehend the attempted port runner.

The man was identified as a convicted felon with an extensive criminal history including charges of illegal importation of 715 pounds of marijuana with an estimated street value of $1.2 million.
