An illegal immigrant wanted by Longmont police for six years on sex-assault charges was arrested on domestic violence charges on June 12, but almost immediately bonded out of Boulder County Jail, according to police.

Commander Craig Earhart said that Manual Nevarez-Carrillo, 25, of Longmont was arrested in a suspected domestic violence incident on the 400 block of Barnard Court on June 12 after allegedly choking the 20-year-old mother of his 1-year-old son, taking a cell phone from her as she attempted to call police and breaking the phone - all in the presence of his young son.

Earhart said a Longmont detective had obtained a warrant for Nevarez in 2000, after he allegedly impregnated a 15-year-old girl on suspicion of sexual assault by a person in a position of trust.

"He was an illegal immigrant then, although I don't know what his residency status is now," Earhart said. "We lost track of him. He could have been out of the country."

Nevarez was booked into Boulder County jail at 2 p.m. June 12 on a $20,000 bond on the warrant from 2000 and for investigation of second-degree assault, obstruction of phone service, criminal mischief and child abuse (as the alleged assault occurred in the presence of his son).

Boulder County Jail officials said friends may have bonded Nevarez out later that day. Jail officials said they could not release information regarding his residency status.
