NUMBERSUSA: Beck bringing criminal assault charges vs SEIU
<img src=http://seeker401.files.wordpress.com/2009/10/numbersusa.jpg>
URGENT UPDATE FROM NUMBERSUSA:
Roy Beck was criminally assaulted Sunday, March 21, on Washington's National Mall by opponents of free speech coordinated by the Service Employees International Union. Roy was there to cover the pro-amnesty march.
S.E.I.U. is the pro-illegal immigration union connected in media accounts with political intimidation and assaults in recent years.
Help NumbersUSA Now
What happened Sunday continues S.E.I.U.'s and its allies' months-long strategy of dogging Roy's every public appearance, trying to shout him down or hounding event organizers to bar him from speaking. We have never tried to deny them their freedom of speech.
But this time the S.E.I.U. went much further. It sent a team of "mimes" and S.E.I.U. employees to stalk, push, shove, harass and whistle down Roy and his TV crew for several hours. It was very aggressive, including incitement of the crowd toward violence.
Roy filed criminal assault charges against the mimes and their S.E.I.U. organizers, who spent hours trying to block our webcast. (All of this can be seen and heard on the homepage of NumbersUSA.com.)
When the Federal Park Police finally ordered the S.E.I.U. agitators to move away from Roy and our TV crew, one of the "mimes" took the confrontation to a new low by falsely accusing one of our colleagues of assaulting her -- some three hours after it supposedly took place! The Park Police, acting on the word of the agitators, hand-cuffed and arrested our colleague on the National Mall. (We got him out of custody before the night was over, but he still must fight the pending criminal charge in court!)

NumbersUSA pledges to use all our strength to:
+ + + defend our wronged colleague to the hilt, including paying all his legal fees;
+ + + prosecute the opponents of free speech who assaulted Roy and tried to prevent our message from being heard;
+ + + stop physical violence and intimidation by our opponents by all legal and peaceful means. We are exploring appropriate remedies against the S.E.I.U.
For complete details of everything that happened on Sunday, go to the NumbersUSA.com homepage. It is explained at length in Roy's blogs and can be seen and heard on video clips.
Before you click, however, I need to ask you these four questions:
+ + + Are we going to stand by and let our leader Roy Beck be constantly stalked -- even assaulted -- without adequate response?
+ + + More personally, are YOU willing to allow those who are already DEMANDING AMNESTY for 11 - 19 million illegal aliens to SILENCE NUMBERSUSA AND YOU about the subject?
+ + + Will you stand with us to stop physical violence against those who speak out against amnesty?
+ + + Will you help us defend our colleague and prosecute those who assaulted Roy?

I had every respect for Roy Beck and NumbersUSA, not only for what he and his organization have accomplished, but especially for the high ethical standards he insisted upon and has maintained. One of these was their constant disclaimer that "those who who are on a limited income" should not consider the need to contribute.
To use this instance of a jailed bodyguard to raise funds seems a departure from this. I have no idea what all these public "appearences" by members of the perceived "opposition" at public demonstrations is intended to do other than provoke an incident which can then be used for publicity and fund raising, or, I presume, a future expensive lawsuit. This can, I think, be said about Reps. Lewis, Frank, and Cleaver deliberately walking throught the Tea Party demonstrations on their way to the Capitol, when there were many other routes available.
Why would Beck and Rosemary Jenks insist on going to this event alone except for two bodyguards to try to "engage in dialogue" with people who clearly have no interest in it? I'm sorry about their bodyguard, but I think Numbers's traditional method of connecting the people with elected officials perhaps worked better to establish dialogues which really mattered and have yielded impressive results.Join our efforts to Secure America's Borders and End Illegal Immigration by Joining ALIPAC's E-Mail Alerts network (CLICK HERE)

The mimes were not the only part of the SEIU team there were people in plain clothes who were going around accusing the NumbersUSA of being a Klan affiliated racist xenophobic organization. This despite the fact that one of the bodyguards was an Afgrican American and the other was Latino. Then when Beck tried to dialog or refute them the mimes blocked the camera and blew whistles to silence him.

I think he's going to need the funds to defend the bodyguard. SEIU has deep pockets, and I don't blame them for asking for an infusion of cash. I'm sure it will be eaten up in legal fees.
What is it with these flaky college students who go spend a little time in Africa? Remember the one who harassed Tancredo? She did some time in Africa too.

03-25-2010, 02:50 PM #9Lena Graber grew up in Wilson, Wyoming, where she spent most of her time tap dancing and playing word games. Deeply involved in performing arts and comedy all through her education and college years at Wesleyan University, she has since lost her sense of humor and joined the legal profession. She is President of the Feminist Forum at George Washington University Law School, and she occasionally blogs on Ms. JD at odd hours of the night. The only lawyer in her family, Ms. Graber came to law school with motley work experience in international development via micro-credit, publishing and editing, tap dance teaching, immigration law, and small business recycling. She hopes to pursue a career in rule of law development, human rights, or immigration. This summer she is working for the Legal Resources Center in Johannesburg, South Africa, an impact litigation and legal aid clinic dedicated to achieving substantive equality for all people in South Africa. From her office in Gandhi Square, Ms. Graber points out to the United States that "in South Africa the Constitution prohibits discrimination on the basis of: race, gender, sex, pregnancy, marital status, ethnic or social origin, color, sexual orientation, age, disability, religion, conscience, belief, culture, language and birth. So there can be a lot to learn from developing countries."

Someone should tell her to stay in the mime game. For a mime is a terrible thing to waste.
