Cruz prepares legislation to keep out Syrian Muslim refugees

The Paris terror attacks, which have shaken the 2016 presidential election, will spill next into the corridors of Congress, where Texas Republican Ted Cruz plans to introduce legislation that

would bar Syrian Muslim refugees from entering the United States.

Cruz announced his bill during campaign stops in South Carolina Monday. But an aide in Washington gave no indication Tuesday as to when the legislation might be ready.

In the ongoing debate over President Barack Obama's plan to host 10,000 Syrian refuges in the next year, Cruz and other Republicans have called in recent days for limiting the intake to
    Christian refugees.

"There is no meaningful risk of Christians committing acts of terror," Cruz said Monday in South Carolina.

He also said over the weekend that the government should stop bringing in Muslim refugees from Syria as long as U.S. intelligence cannot determine who may or may not be a terrorist.

"President Obama and Hillary Clinton's idea that we should bring tens of thousands of Syrian Muslim refugees to America, it is nothing less than lunacy," Cruz said in an interview on
    Fox News Saturday

But Cruz, whose campaign is banking heavily on support from white evangelical voters, said Christian refugees are a different matter.

"Christians who are being targeted for genocide, for persecution, Christians who are being beheaded or crucified, we should be providing safe haven to them," Cruz said.

Speaking in Turkey Monday, Obama said the notion of sorting out refugees by their religion would be un-American.

"When I hear political leaders suggesting that there would be a religious test for which a person who's fleeing from a war-torn country is admitted, when some of those folks themselves come

from families who benefited from protection when they were fleeing political persecution -- that's shameful," Obama said. "That's not American.

That's not who we are. We don't have religious tests to our compassion."

What a mess. No, we can not admit Christian refugees. No, we can not admit Muslim refugees. No, we can not admit any more refugees, asylum-seekers, or immigrants. We're full, we're saturated, we're boiling over. We don't have the jobs, we don't have the money. Stop it all now.
