DANBURY - Agents from U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement detained a man in the parking lot of the Danbury Fair mall Monday afternoon.
City police were dispatched to the mall at about 2 p.m. to assist ICE agents, according to Capt. Robert Myles of the Danbury Police Department.

The man, whose name was not available, was apparently wanted by ICE on charges of violating immigration law.

The man was transported to the police station by Danbury police, where he was fingerprinted and taken away by ICE agents.

ICE confirmed a man was taken into custody Monday but did not release his name Tuesday.

"I can confirm that we did take an individual into custody from that location," said Paula Grenier, a spokesperson for ICE, when asked about the incident at the mall. "He has been charged with immigration violations and removal proceedings have been initiated. He is now awaiting a hearing before an impartial federal immigration judge who will decide his case."
