Danbury vigil scheduled for jailed border agents
Jan 12, 2007
DANBURY -- A vigil is planned for Saturday in Danbury for two U.S. Border Patrol agents jailed for shooting a drug-smuggling suspect as he fled across the Rio Grande.
Agents Jose Alonso Compean and Ignacio Ramos were sentenced to 12 and 11 years in prison for shooting Osbaldo Aldrete-Devila in his buttocks as he tried to run. The man was trying to smuggle marijuana from Mexico into the U.S. The agents thought the suspect had a weapon.
A dozen members of the U.S. House of Representatives wrote a letter to President Bush demanding pardons for the agents.
Members of the U.S. Citizens for Immigration Law Enforcement , a Danbury-based group, plan to hold a vigil Saturday in front of the Danbury Library from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. to raise awareness about the case.Support our FIGHT AGAINST illegal immigration & Amnesty by joining our E-mail Alerts at https://eepurl.com/cktGTn
