Missing child found, wanted kidnapper arrested at Peace Bridge
    Posted 3 hours ago

A missing 13-year-old was found and a citizen of Nicaragua wanted in Delaware on kidnapping charges was arrested by U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers over the weekend.

Customs officers encountered 24-year-old Jose Reyes-Quezada as he applied for admission into the United States at the Peace Bridge in Buffalo Sunday. He was driving a Delaware-plated vehicle and was accompanied by a 13-year-old female.

Reyes-Quezada told officers he and his passenger, whom he claimed was his sister, were en route to Pearson International Airport in Toronto, but were refused entry into Canada as neither had identification. Both were referred to secondary enforcement for verification of their immigration status.

During the initial interview, Reyes-Quezada told officers his name was Francisco Ventura and that he and his sister were citizens of Nicaragua who had illegally entered the United States without inspection on the southern border.

He claimed the two were headed to Pearson airport to return to Nicaragua.

The officers then interviewed the juvenile, who said she and Reyes-Quezada were not brother and sister, but rather boyfriend and girlfriend. She went on to say she recently ran away from home and was destined to Canada to fly to Nicaragua with her boyfriend.

Record checks were done using the name provided by the juvenile, which resulted in a missing persons record issued March 26 by Delaware State Police.

When presented with the information, Reyes-Quezada recanted his story and provided customs officers with his true identity.

Further investigation revealed three active nationwide felony warrants issued March 31 by Delaware State Police. The warrants charge Reyes-Quezada with kidnapping/taking or enticing a child from custody, theft of a motor vehicle and possession of a stolen vehicle.

The vehicle Reyes-Quezada and the juvenile were traveling in was reported stolen March 29.

It was determined Reyes-Quezada was in the U.S. illegally and will face deportation at the completion of his legal case in Delaware.
