Mom pays coyotes to bring daughters, now they're dead.......

Mother Plans Trip To Bury Daughters In El Salvador

    The Associated Press

    December 10, 2008

SANTA ANA - Leticia Gonzalez never imagined her long-awaited reunion with her daughters would include two child-sized coffins and a plane ticket to El Salvador.

After getting a call from the FBI, the 36-year old factory worker is planning to go to Texas to retrieve the girls' remains and bring them back to El Salvador for a Catholic burial.

It will be Gonzalez's first trip back to her country since she left roughly nine years ago in search of a better life for her daughters than what she could afford selling soda and pupusas from a school snack stand.

For the last 20 months, Gonzalez has been living a nightmare since she paid an immigrant smuggler $12,000 to bring her Luz Karina, then 12, and Blanca Lilian Campos, then 10, to live with her in Southern California.

Gonzalez said the smugglers called her from Mexico in April 2007 asking for more money. They put her girls on the line so she could hear them chatting excitedly about how they were getting close to crossing the border.

    But they never arrived.

Gonzalez said she learned the girls were missing when her brother was picked up by federal agents and put into immigration detention. He had been traveling with the girls and his wife - but the smugglers separated the women from the men during the trip.

Gonzalez went to the consulate for help. When the smugglers called again and couldn't produce her daughters, Gonzalez went to police.

Earlier this year, the remains of two girls and a young woman were found in Texas. But DNA testing wasn't completed until last month, when the FBI was able to match elements of the remains to Gonzalez's daughters and sister-in-law.

"I still hoped that they would show up alive - that I could see them, that I could hug them," Gonzalez said Tuesday at the consulate of El Salvador in Santa Ana, where she applied for her passport so she can make the trip.

The FBI is investigating the circumstances surrounding the deaths of the Campos girls, said Laura Eimiller, an FBI spokeswoman. U.S. authorities have not made any arrests in the case.

Gonzalez must seek special permission from the U.S. government to travel because she is here under a program that grants temporary legal status to Salvadoran immigrants. She must also raise money for her ticket, though the government of El Salvador has agreed to pay to repatriate the girls' remains, said Luis Montes Brito, El Salvador's vice minister of foreign affairs.

For Gonzalez - who has a 4-year old son in the United States and an older teenage daughter in El Salvador - having her girls near her was a dream they all shared. She said the girls pleaded with her to bring them to the United States, but paying smugglers to do so was "the biggest mistake of my life."

"I only wanted to have my daughters here with me," she said, weeping. "That may have been my worst mistake. I wanted for them to study. I wanted to give them a better life."

In nine years in the US, she was able to amass $12k to smuggle her kids here, in addition to sending money home AND paying her living expenses here?!?!! She had 3 kids in El Salvador, then has a 4 year old anchor?!?! Where's the daddy?

First of all, she should be charged with murder. If she sets foot back in the US, she should be jailed for their deaths, then deported after her sentence is done. She alone put those kids in that position. She should've taken the $12k and both kids here and gone back to be reunited with her family, that money would've gone a long way in her country.

What a sorry excuse for a mother!

    I

I would add child endangerment, child abandonment.

Who on Earth would abandon their children for nine years like this? This person calls herself a mother?

Yeah, I really want to pay her welfare tab.

This is a terrible tragedy and it is horrific to think of what the last moments of life must have been like for those poor innocent girls.

Yes, this mother put her children in harms way by putting them into the hands of known smugglers renowned for rapes, drug smuggling, using children as child sex slaves etc...

This mother should have never attempted to bring those children here via smugglers. She should have returned home to care for them or sought legal remedies to bring them here.

Obviously, she did not intend for her children to be harmed, but she took that known risk turning them over to the gangs.

Considering starting DSS proceedings as an irressponsible parent against a mother in this situation makes some sense not charging her for murder. There is a difference between providing remittance monies for support of children abroad and investing remittances in the home country for their continuing support and be a base for return so they will not need to come or remain here.
I support enforcement and see its lack as bad for the 3rd World as well. Remittances are now mostly spent on consumption not production assets. Join our efforts to Secure America's Borders and End Illegal Immigration by Joining ALIPAC's E-Mail Alerts network (CLICK HERE)

I agree. She conspired with smugglers to perform an illegal act which caused the death (murder) of her children.

The mother should be charged as an accessory to murder. There is no way in the world I would ever pay a complete stranger to bring my children into another country, no matter how desperate I was to be with them again. The mother should have taken her 12,000 and left the country to be with them. Its horrible to even think about what hapened to her daughters. May God bless their souls.

Why do they let her get away with this? If this was an American citizen who purposely entrusted her children with known criminal human traffickers...she would have been arrested and prosecuted for their deaths.....

No rational, responsible, loving parent would entrust their children to complete strangers, especially known human traffickers to escort our children to the school bus stop...let alone to make a dangerous, journey across thousands of miles ..........sick, deranged and shameful. She should be prosecuted for her part in the murder of her children. Why does La RAZA and all the rest of the illegal alien apologists tolerate this stuff?

added to homepage with title and note

ALIPAC NOTE: Everyone is encouraged to obey all existing immigration laws of the United States for your own safety and the safety of our nation. It should be clear to all that doing business with the drug and human importing gangs is risky business that children should never be involved in. Child endangerment and child abuse is a crime in America. In America, we do not hand our children over to murderous gangs.

The people from El Salvador are here under "Temporary" Protected Status but they never leave. This woman should have gone home a long time ago. It's a safe enough place for her children to live and she should have been with them.

Honestly, I don't know why you would give gangsters money and put your children in their care.
