Immigration officials have quadrupled their workplace investigations into illegal hiring, so pressuring companies to offer more pay and more training to millions of young American workers in President Donald Trump’s “Hire American” economy.

‘Workplace Immigration Inquiries Quadruple Under Trump,” the Wall Street Journal reported December 5, saying:

Investigators with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement opened about four times the number of workplace investigations in the year ended Sept. 30 compared with the close of the Obama administration, while starting fewer probes into gangs, weapons and financial crimes, according to new figures the agency provided to The Wall Street Journal.

ICE’s focus on workplace enforcement—targeting both immigrants working illegally and their employers—has intensified in the past two years. Homeland Security Investigations, the ICE arm that carries out criminal investigations, opened 6,812 new workplace cases in the 2019 fiscal year, up from 1,701 during fiscal 2016. The agency made 2,048 administrative arrests, primarily of illegal immigrants, up roughly 500 from the year before.

The ramp-up was pushed by Thomas Homan when he was the director of the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency. “I just gave the instruction I want to increase that by four to five times,” Homan told an audience at the Heritage Foundation in October 2017.

The Homeland Security Investigations division of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency released its annual report on December 6.
The extra pressure on employers is nudging them to hire more Americans and to raise their pay. The Bureau of Labor Standards reported December 6 that employers hired 266,000 more people in November, and that “over the last 12 months, average hourly earnings have increased by 3.1 percent.”

The BLS data shows that construction wages rose by 2.7 percent, wages for transportation and warehousing workers rose by 2.8 percent, information technology wages rose by 3.1 percent, while wages for leisure and hospitality workers rose by 3.4 percent.

Those pocketbook gains would likely be higher if GOP and Democrat legislators in Congress had not held open the border for at least 400,000 unskilled migrants throughout the first part of 2019.

Congress is also allowing the legal immigration of roughly one million people per year and is allowing companies to keep an army of roughly 1.5 million foreign visa workers in the U.S. jobs that are needed by U.S. college graduates.

Business groups complain there is a shortage of workers. But the BLS reports that 164 million Americans are in the workforce, while roughly four million young Americans join the workforce each year.

Several of the Democrats’ 2020 candidates — including Bernie Sanders and Sen. Elizabeth Warren — are promising to open the border, so generating applause from the wealthy donors who bankroll much of the Democrat party. That open borders policy would dramatically increase the supply of labor and so drop Americans’ wages, once investors and employers could hire cheap young migrants instead of middle-class Americans – including older, disabled, or poorly educated Americans.

Trump’s tightening labor market is also forcing company owners to restart training programs for young Americans, according to another report in the Wall Street Journal:

Chad Ballard, 28 years old, was building swimming pools and trimming trees in Daytona Beach, Fla., when he decided to move to Hickory and then take a chance on an entry-level job at Century. Now, four evenings a week, he studies upholstery at Catawba Valley Community College in Hickory, a skill that could boost his annual pay to $45,000 within a few years and, if he can master the craft, to $75,000 or more.

Hiring Mr. Ballard was a small victory for Century, which in any given week has about 35 openings for sewers, upholsterers and other trades. “He came to us through a temporary agency,” said Amy Millsaps Guyer, vice president of human resources at the furniture maker. “We won the lottery.”

Companies are increasingly competing with each other for workers, offering early recruitment, more pay, and better training, the article said:

“The labor market is very tight in North Carolina,” said Darryl Webster, the executive in charge of Williams-Sonoma’s manufacturing operation. “I quickly realized that you need to be literally standing there before they graduate offering them a job.”

Craftmaster Furniture Inc., based in nearby Taylorsville, N.C., recently set out yard signs offering a $2,000 signing bonus for experienced seamstresses. Soon after, a friend told CEO Roy Calcagne that he had spotted the signs in a competitor’s trunk. “It’s every man for himself when it comes to hiring people,” Mr. Calcagne said.

DHS officials are also promising to arrest more company owners for hiring illegals. Matt Allen, a top official at the DHS’s Homeland Security Investigations arm, told the Journal that officials expect to charge more of the company owners who employ illegals:

“It’s much more difficult and longer term to get employers and managers in the company charged,” he said. Federal law requires that, to convict an employer for hiring illegal immigrants, investigators must be able to prove the employer knew about the workers’ legal status.

On December 4, immigration officials raised the office of a huge Indian firm suspected of visa fraud. NJ.com reported:

Federal Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents raided an international global technology consulting company’s office in Edison Wednesday afternoon.

About a dozen agents were at 2035 Route 27, an office building located at Edison Square Office Park, a complex that is used by multiple companies. The agents were observed by NJ Advance Media coming out of an office for Larsen & Toubro Infotech, a consulting firm with multiple offices around the globe.

“There was an investigation that’s internal that I can’t talk too much about,” said Adam Deutsch, who works for the sister company, L&T Technology Services. “They’ve left now and that’s it.” The offices for L&T Technology Services are across the hall from Infotech Limited.

The company has asked for visas to import roughly 8,500 H-1B workers since 2017.

Four executives at an Illinois manufacturing plant have been charged with knowingly hiring illegal aliens, the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agency reveals.

According to ICE officials, four executives at the sheet metal KSO MetalFab Inc. manufacturing plant in Streamwood, Illinois — a suburb of Chicago — have been charged with one count each of knowingly harboring illegal aliens and one count each of knowingly hiring illegal aliens.

The four executives include 81-year-old Dora Kuzelka, 62-year-old Kenneth Kuzelka, 56-year-old Kari Kuzelka, and 58-year-old Keith Kuzelka. ICE officials allege that the Kuzelkas knowingly hired at least 18 illegal aliens.

Worksite immigration enforcement actions have increased dramatically under President Donald Trump’s administration as part of the White House’s crackdown on incentives that drive illegal immigration into the country.

Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s (ICE) investigative unit opened four times as many worksite inquiries in the 2019 fiscal year than it did at the end of former President Barack Obama’s time in office, according to data obtained by the Wall Street Journal. ICE’s Homeland Security Investigations opened a total of 6,812 inquiries in the last fiscal year, a sharp increase from the 1,701 in the 2016 fiscal year.

These worksite enforcement actions target non-citizens who are working in the U.S. illegally and their employers. The increase in inquiries has also led to more apprehensions, with the agency making 2,048 administrative arrests in fiscal year 2019, up from about 500 from the previous year.

ICE has broken records in its recent crackdown on illegal employment of foreign nationals. The agency, for example, raided seven different Mississippi food processing plants in August, leading to the arrest of 680 illegal aliens. The bust marked the single largest such raid in U.S. history.

Homeland Security Investigations (HSI), which serves as the investigative branch of ICE, is behind numerous high-profile arrests and raids that extend well beyond immigration-related activity.

HSI agents in fiscal year 2019 made 3,771 criminal arrests relating to child exploitation, an 18% increase from the previous year. ICE’s investigative division in November officially opened the Angel Watch Center in Fairfax, Virginia, which is dedicated to the prevention of child sex tourism — the act of traveling internationally for the purpose of sexually exploiting minors.

During the 2019 fiscal year — which began on Oct. 1, 2018 and ended on Sept. 30 — criminal arrests by ICE agents totaled 37,547, a 10% uptick from the previous fiscal year, according to WSJ data. These arrests included drug-related and human trafficking crimes, and also includes immigration-related crimes such as employment of illegal aliens.

While President Trump has made immigration enforcement a focus of his administration, the demographics of the current border crisis have made it more difficult for arrests to lead to deportations.

For months, the vast majority of those reaching the U.S.-Mexico border were migrant family units from Central America, rather than single, male adults from Mexico. Foreign nationals from noncontiguous countries are more difficult to process and remove from the country because of current U.S. immigration laws. The result has been record detention of illegal aliens, but still far fewer deportations than seen under the Obama administration.

Around 1.8 million foreign nationals were deported from the country in the first three years of the Obama administration. The Trump administration, on the other hand, has deported fewer than 800,000 in the same time period. Detainment, however, has reached record levels, with roughly 50,000 individuals jailed on any given day last year by ICE, the biggest detainment number in the government’s history.

Haven't seen any decline in illegal aliens on residential construction sites. Widespread enforcement in every state across the country, combined with with employer accountability and heavy fines to those who hire illegal aliens, is what's needed to help American workers recover jobs and relieve depressed wages.

President Trump needs to make a NATIONAL ANNOUNCEMENT to all Employers, and the public who employ illegal aliens, to FIRE THESE ILLEGAL ALIENS now.

That announcement needs to include getting them OUT of our housing and use E-verify on your tenants.



These employers need to be fined, jailed, and if caught multiple times they loose their business licenses.
