Drugs found in truck bed by Border Patrol agents


 CAMPO, Calif. - A 31-year-old man was apprehended on Wednesday afternoon for allegedly attempting to smuggle heroin and methamphetamine.According to Border Patrol agents, a tan Ford Ranger approached the checkpoint on westbound Interstate 8 when agents questioned the driver's citizenship. The driver was sent to secondary inspection for further questioning. Agents say a canine alerted to a scent beneath the truck bed where agents searched and discovered the bed of the pick-up had a false floor and packages concealed in a non-factory compartment.


After opening the compartment, agents say they located 88 suspicious bundles that contained 88 pounds of meth, worth $185,000 and 6 pounds of heroin, worth $69,000.


The driver, a Mexican citizen with a B1/B2 tourist visa was apprehended on the scene. Agents say the narcotics were turned over to the Drug Enforcement Administration and the vehicle was seized by the U.S. Border Patrol.
