Chapo Guzman’s rumored $100M bounty on Donald Trump is 'reason for concern'

    Published October 08, 2015
    Fox News Latino

Amid persistent rumors that fugitive Mexican drug lord Joaquín "El Chapo" Guzmán has put a $100 million bounty for the death or capture of Donald Trump, a former New York City Police Department commissioner is warning the Republican presidential candidate to not take the purported threat lightly.

"Any time you're threatened by anyone, it's a reason for concern," Bernard Kerik told Newsmax. "This guy is a known killer. (…) He's involved in one of the largest drug cartels in the world," he added.

Trump earned the ire of Guzmán over the summer, while he was still in prison, when the real estate mogul and candidate made his now infamous remarks about Mexican immigrants – he said during his campaign speech that Mexico sends its criminals and "rapists" to the U.S.

An unnamed inmate told teleSUR he witnessed Chapo’s angry reaction.

"He was mad. He wants Donald Trump dead and will pay any amount of money to have Donald Trump's head," he told the Latin American television network.

Kerik, who headed the NYPD from 2000 to late 2001, said that Trump should be worried about Guzmán, but to not let the bounty or the threat of violence affect his presidential campaign.

Kerik added: "The amount of money he has access to or could put together for some kind of reward or bounty is enormous really, and it's something that they should be concerned with … With all this chatter, it's something that we should and Donald Trump should be actually concerned with."

The alleged bounty, which is open to anyone who brings Trump to Guzmán "dead or alive," has been making the rounds around the Internet over the last week, with various sources citing an unnamed prison inmate with apparent close ties to the drug cartel boss.

The Trump-Chapo feud took off after the candidate’s explosive comments in a Twitter account called @Elchap0guzman. The tweet in Spanish read, "Keep f---ing around, and I’ll make you swallow all your words," along with more colorful language. It ended with Trump’s official Twitter handle (@realDonaldTrump).

Trump responded with a tweet of his own, saying "I told you so!"

A Trump employee told the Gossip Cop website, which was the first to break the threat news, "This is no joke," noting that the staff of the real estate mogul and television personality had been in touch with the FBI and that the threat is being taken "quite seriously."

Trump has sought to reassure his supporters that he has security watching him for any threats, a claim backed up by Kerik in his recent interview.

"He has an extensive security team around him, highly qualified — and they're going to make sure that he gets through this campaign and does what he has to do, but there's still a need for concern always," Kerik said.

    Dead or a Lie

FACT CHECK: Did Mexican drug lord Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzman put a $100 million bounty on Donald Trump’s head?

Claim: Mexican drug lord Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzman put a $100 million bounty on Donald Trump’s head.
    FALSE
Examples: [Collected via email, October 2015]

Is it true that El Chapo Is Reportedly Offering $100 Million for the Capture of Donald Trump “Dead or Alive”?

    Origins:
On 6 October 2015, the web site Telesur TV published an article claiming that Mexican drug lord Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzman was offering a $100 million bounty on Donald Trump’s head:

The world’s most wanted and most dangerous drug lord, Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzman, is allegedly offering a US$100 million bounty for whoever delivers billionaire and Republican presidential hopeful Donald Trump to him, dead or alive.
According to various websites, sources close to the drug trafficker say Guzman was infuriated by Trump’s racist remarks against Mexicans.
“He was mad. He wants Donald Trump dead and will pay any amount of money to have Donald Trump’s head,” said an unnamed inmate, according to Most Extreme News.

Several otherwise reputable web sites, such as Yahoo News and the International Business Times, picked up story, and while these news outlets did express skepticism, their reports lent weight to the rumor that El Chapo was offering $100 million for Donald Trump’s head.
But the reports were not true. This rumor is fake news that has been circulating on the internet since 19 July 2015, when the fake entertainment news web site TMZ Today publisheda satirical article entitled “El Chapo Puts $100 Million Bounty for Donald Trump Dead Or Alive!”
    :
Mexican lord Joaquín Guzmán is offering a $100 million bounty for anyone who can bring him Donald Trump, dead or alive…
According to informants close to El Chapo, the drug lord was offended and furious with Donald Trump’s racists allegations and plans of a Great Wall dividing the United States and Mexico. The bounty was set weeks prior to El Chapo’s escape with the help of other members of the Mexican cartel…
“He was mad. He wants Donald Trump dead and will pay any amount of money if meant he could have Donald Trump’s head” explains an unnamed inmate.

    TMZ Today
(no affiliation with TMZ.com) is an entertainment web site that publishes a “combination of real shocking news and satire news.” A disclaimer on the web site warns readers that all “articles written on this site are for entertainment and satirical purposes only.”
While the rumor that El Chapo is offering a $100 million bounty for Donald Trump’s head is false, it is rooted in a small tidbit of truth. Shortly after El Chapo escaped from prison in July 2015, a Twitter account associated with the drug lord posted a message saying that Trump would “swallow his words”
    :
Guzman and his supporters wasted no time lambasting Mexican president Enrique Pena Nieto as a “coward” but reserved particular ire for Mr Trump, who has accused Mexico of sending rapists and criminals to America.
A post riddled with obscenities on a Twitter account, reportedly run by the drug lord’s son Ivan, said the billionaire businessman would be made to “swallow his words”.

That's so funny. You quote some website you know nothing about as some authority of something else you know nothing about. Why do you do that?!

    "snopes"

Snopes is a man and wife working out of their basement somewhere in Los Angeles with no more access to truth or fiction than anyone else surfing the internet.

    About snopes.com

The snopes.com website was founded by Barbara and David Mikkelson, who live and work in the Los Angeles area. What they began in 1995 as an expression of their shared interest in researching urban legends has since grown into what is widely regarded by folklorists, journalists, and laypersons alike as one of the World Wide Web's essential resources.

Snopes.com is routinely included in annual "Best of the Web" lists and has been the recipient of two Webby awards. The Mikkelsons have made multiple appearances as guests on national news programs such as 20/20, ABC World News, CNN Sunday Morning, and NPR's All Things Considered, and they and their work have been profiled in numerous major news publications, including The New York Times, the Los Angeles Times, The Washington Post, The Wall Street Journal, and an April 2009 Reader's Digest feature ("The Rumor Detectives") published as part of that magazine's "Your America: Inspiring People and Stories" series.

With over 15 years' experience as professional researchers and writers, the Mikkelsons have created in snopes.com what has come to be regarded as an online touchstone of rumor research. Their work has been described as painstaking, scholarly, and reliable, and has been lauded by the world's top folklorists, including Jan Harold Brunvand, Gary Alan Fine, and Patricia Turner. The couple has been approached by many publishers and publisher's agents about doing a series of books, but they remain uncommitted at this time, preferring instead to continue focusing their efforts on their web site.

Nevertheless, hundreds of the Mikkelsons' articles have been cited by authors in a variety of disciplines (an October 2011 search of Google Books for such citations netted 6,230 results for Barbara Mikkelson alone), and various of their articles have been published in textbooks currently in use in the U.S. and Canadian school systems.

Because snopes.com is all about rumors, it was only a matter of time before rumors began to circulate about it and its operators, such as the following:Snopes receives funding from an undisclosed source.

The source is undisclosed because Snopes refuses to disclose that source. The Democratic Alliance, a funding channel for uber-Leftist (Marxist) Billionaires (George Soros etc.), direct funds to an "Internet Propaganda Arm" pushing these views. The Democratic Alliance has been reported to instruct Fundees to not disclose their funding source.

The snopes.com web site is (and always has been) a completely independent, self-sufficient entity wholly owned by its operators, Barbara and David Mikkelson, and funded through advertising revenues.

Neither the site nor its operators has ever received monies from (or been engaged in any business or editorial relationship with), any sponsor, investor, partner, political party, religious group, business organization, government agency, or any other outside group or organization.

Barbara Mikkelson is a Canadian citizen and as such cannot vote in U.S. elections, register an affiliation with a U.S. political party, or donate to any U.S. political campaign or candidate. David Mikkelson is an American citizen whose participation in U.S. politics has never extended beyond periodically exercising his civic duty at the ballot box. As FactCheck confirmed in April 2009, David is a registered independent who has never donated to, or worked on behalf of, any political campaign or party. The Mikkelsons are wholly apolitical, vastly preferring their quiet scholarly lives in the company of their cats to any political considerations.

How come California homes don't have basements?

    -Mr. Left

    A: Dear Lefty,

For the same reason there aren't many basement homes in Arizona, or other warm-climate areas. In colder areas, homebuilders must dig a deeper foundation, so as to lay the foundation below the frost line. When you are already digging deeper, going the whole hog and adding a basement is less of an issue and price difference.

It also may be worth noting that building a home with a basement takes longer, which is an even bigger disadvantage in places like California (and Arizona) which frequently (although not currently) experience housing booms.

This make believe story goes back at least as far as July 13, 2015

Donald Trump, who promised to kick El Chapo’s a--, calls FBI after Mexican drug lord threatens him on Twitter

    BY MEG WAGNER
    NEW YORK DAILY NEWS
    Updated: Monday, July 13, 2015, 5:06 PM

    ROSS D. FRANKLIN/AP
Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump said he would "kick El Chapo's a--" if he were President.

Donald Trump thinks he can kick El Chapo’s butt — but the billionaire called the FBI when the Mexican drug lord returned the threat.

The 2016 presidential hopeful contacted federal agents Monday when a Twitter account claiming to be the escaped Joaquin (El Chapo) Guzman tweeted profane, hostile messages at him, TMZ reported.

A day earlier, Trump tweeted that he’d kick Guzman’s "ass," unlike other presidential contenders who are softer on immigration.

“Keep f--king around, and I’ll make you eat all of your godd--n words, f--king whitey f----t @realDonaldTrump,” an account claiming to be Guzman’s official Twitter presence tweeted at Trump’s account in Spanish.

The Daily News could not verify the @ElChap0Guzman’s authenticity, but the account has more than 272,000 followers and dates back to June 2012.

The same account also tweeted threats to President Enrique Pena Nieto — “And you, @EPN don’t ever call me a delinquent again because I give people jobs, unlike your f--king current government” and commented on life outside of prison — “Life takes many turns, one day we’re in the hole and the next we’re on top..”

When Guzman escaped from a maximum-security prison Saturday, Trump quickly chimed in on how he’d handle the runaway cartel mastermind.

“Can you envision Jeb Bush or Hillary Clinton negotiating with 'El Chapo', the Mexican drug lord who escaped from prison? ....” @realDonaldTrump Tweeted Sunday night.

He continued: “...Trump, however, would kick his ass!”

Trump followed up his Sunday comments with more derogatory musings Monday morning about immigration and Mexico. The scathing tweets mirrored bizarre, inflammatory comments he made about Mexican immigrants during his candidacy announcement.

U.S. AGENTS 2 PREVIOUS ESCAPE PLOTS BY EL CHAPO

“The U.S. will invite El Chapo, the Mexican drug lord who just escaped prison, to become a U.S. citizen because our ‘leaders’ can't say no!” Trump tweeted.

“El Chapo and the Mexican drug cartels use the border unimpeded like it was a vacuum cleaner, sucking drugs and death right into the U.S.”

The rant continued: “....likewise, billions of dollars gets brought into Mexico through the border. We get the killers, drugs & crime, they get the money!”

Last month, while announcing his 2016 presidential run, Trump accused Mexico of sending its drug runners and rapists to the U.S., insinuating that most immigrants were criminals. Critics slammed the comments were slammed as racist — but Trump isn’t backing down, especially in the wake of Guzman’s escape.

“When will people, and the media, start to apologize to me for my statement, ‘Mexico is sending....’, which turned out to be true? El Chapo,” he Tweeted Monday.

Guzman slipped out of his prison cell late Saturday through a sophisticated, mile-long tunnel, apparently built over the course of a year right under authorities' noses.

The bold Saturday night breakout is the second in the 58-year-old kingpin’s career. The Sinaloa Cartel boss managed to flee from Mexico's only other maximum-security prison in 2001, and then spent 13 years on the lam. He was recaptured in 2014.

The manhunt for the drug lord entered its second day Monday.

I think this shows beyond any doubt that no one in the US government will protect Donald Trump as a citizen or as a Presidential candidate. That's why he needs his own security team, and a very good one. And when he's elected President, he won't be able to rely on Secret Service personnel. He'll need his own team.

Whether the threat is actual or made up, Mr Trump needs the best security he can buy - they kill w/o reason south of the border and are notorious hotheads. If he becomes our next president and follows thru with "get out", the risks will be even greater.
