    Pardon Ramos and Compean

    Pardon Ramos and Compean

    May 15, 2008

    THE WASHINGTON TIMES EDITORIAL - If President Bush would simply pardon the unjustly imprisoned former Border Patrol Agents Ignacio Ramos and Jose Compean, we could all rest much easier knowing that in the United States, a foreign drug smuggler's word does not prevail over the word of federal agents in the line of duty.

    This week, the Kentucky-based group, Christians Reviving America's Values, filed an ethics complaint with the Texas Bar Association to investigate U.S. Attorney Johnny Sutton, whom the group argues willfully misled a jury to convict the agents. Here is a refresher on the case for those who need it: Messrs. Ramos and Compean are serving 11- and 12-year federal prison sentences, respectively, for shooting in the buttocks an admitted drug smuggler who abandoned 743 pounds of marijuana. As the men tell it, they shot Mexican national Osvaldo Aldrete-Davila southeast of El Paso three years ago after the suspect refused the agents' orders to stop. Wounded, Mr. Aldrete-Davila fled to Mexico, leaving behind the van containing the massive drug load.

    Here's the awful turn: Federal authorities subsequently located Mr. Aldrete-Davila in Mexico to offer immunity in exchange for his testimony against the border agents. He then filed a $5 million suit against the federal government for violating his civil rights.

    On this man's testimony, the border agents were convicted by a federal jury on charges that included: assault with a dangerous weapon, lying about the incident and violating the alleged smuggler's Fourth Amendment right to be protected against illegal search and seizure.

    News in April should put all controversy to rest: Mr. Aldrete-Davila pleaded guilty in federal court to multiple drug charges — crimes that occurred after the above episode, and thus are not covered by the immunity agreement. He was charged with two counts of possession with intent to distribute a controlled substance, one count of conspiracy to import a controlled substance and one count of conspiracy to possess a controlled substance with intent to distribute.

    Mr. President, the clearest path to end this mess is to pardon the two former agents. Only a pardon would reassure the nation that the federal government does not actively seek drug smugglers to testify against its own agents. We are not safe.

    Can anything be done??? What about the " INNOCENCE PROJECT "
    I believe they are out of Colorado, I am not sure. They had a special on 20/20 about a year ago or so about this man who was convicted of rape, in which he didnt do. The innocence project got involed and come to find out with the DNA and the testiomny of others, in which the prosecution didnt let in, they found this man not guilty, he wasnt even there, at the time of the rapes. this man severed 23 years in prison, for a CRIME HE DIDNT do.
    So I believe these men the boarder patrol agents, act like they should have they FEARED for there lives so, they used force. How does Sutton know the ILLEGAL DRUG LORD had a gun or not, based on this ILLEGAL.
    Sutton jumped the gun, and he wanted to make a name for himself, dont use any kind of force if YOU fear for YOUR life, or I will put your a-- in prison for a long time. Anyone find out about the innocences project, write about it here and let us know. We need to write letters to them, and tell them, about this.

    Lord help us all. UGH.

    Hello again. Well I found what I was looking for.
    As far as I am concern, Sutton jumped the gun.
    He should be charged with misconduct.
    * wilful prosecution
    * withholding evidence from defence
    * the deliberate mishandling, mistreatment of evidence
    * use of unreliable government informats or snitches
    * Dishonest Wrongful convictions

    We need to write letters to these men and let them know we are thinking about them. I think its a shame that these men who are doing their jobs,
    end up in prison, and Bush cant help. Boy, he wanted to help the mexican kid who killed two innocent girls raped and murdered them, him and his thugs.
    And he was going to get this creep a ne trial, said his rights where violated, heck what about the girls he murdered? Thye dont have rights.

    I have also written several letters to the senetors, couldnt hurt, but, I basically told them how I felt about this whole thing that Sutton and his gang, distoryed the lives of these agents to protedt a drug runner. I also wrote a letter to sutton office a basically told him, that he was wrong and that the best thing he could do is admit he did wrong, and make it right, but, I am just a peaon, and he wont listen. Oh well, I got to let my fusteration out on him.
    I am really concern for these ment and how they where railroaded, what if it happens to us, that someone does something and we protect ourselves are we to end up in prison? Wow how the USA has changed. We have these people in office are pretty sly, and they may get away with it, but, sooner or later it will catch up to you. Just look at what happened to Ted, I dont wish nothing on no one, but, there comes a time where it will get you. I am writing a letter tonight to the agents, tell them I am in support of them.
    Writing a letter to Jeff Sessions, did you see the smirk on his face yesterday on Lou Dobbs, and how he thought it was a dirty trick, how they tried to get the Amesty pass? I thought it was funny. He seems to be pretty level headed.
