ESCONDIDO: A man involved in a head-on crash that killed a Valley Center woman died yesterday, the county Medical Examiner's Office said.

Javier Medrano, 20, died shortly after 8 a.m. at Palomar Medical Center from severe head trauma.

Medrano was driving south on North Centre City Parkway, near Deer Springs Road, about 6:15 p.m. Tuesday when for unknown reasons he veered into the northbound lane and struck another car head-on.

Kathleen Joy Powell, 59, was the driver of the other vehicle and died at the scene, the California Highway Patrol said. Officials said Powell lived with her daughter. –D.B.

Sincere sympathies to you Bicky for the loss of your mother. Never should have happened. Yes, the media can be quite hush-hush about such details. So much for informing the public of the entire truth eh?
