Feds arrest five in Rochester as part of nationwide sweep

ROCHESTER, N.Y. Five alleged gang members have been arrested in Rochester as part of federal law enforcement's nationwide crackdown on violent street gangs.

Officials say agents with the U-S Immigration and Customs Enforcement's (ICE) Buffalo office and the Rochester Police Department arrested the Jamaican gang members who were allegedly in the United States illegally.

Federal authorities say they seized 17 pounds of marijuana and a stolen handgun during the arrests.

Officials say the suspects are members or associates of the Hanna Street Posse, a gang active in the Rochester area.

Authorities say federal agents working with local police agencies nationwide have arrested 375 gang members in the past two weeks and nearly 24-hundred during the past year as part of Operation Community Shield.
