CBP Officers Seize Record Meth Load

LAREDO - U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers in Laredo stopped a large drug smuggling attempt Friday. The bust netted more than $2 million worth of methamphetamines, officials said.
Sixty-five pounds of the meth were found inside a Ford truck at the Lincoln-Juarez International Bridge in Laredo. CBP officers processing travelers referred the truck and driver to a secondary inspection.
The driver, a 21-year-old U.S. citizen from Riverside, Calif., was arrested when officers found the load of meth valued at an estimated $2,080,000.

Naco, Ariz. - A 31-year-old Mexican national was arrested yesterday for an alleged attempt to smuggle more than 25 pounds of methamphetamine through the Naco port. U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers referred the woman for a secondary inspection of her Jeep when she attempted to enter the United States. (more)

Fajardo, Puerto Rico - U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) Border Patrol and Puerto Rico police seized early Friday 58.6 pounds (26.6 kilos) of cocaine inside the trunk of a vehicle arriving on the Fajardo ferry. The estimated value of the cocaine is $665,000 and the vehicles' driver was arrested. (more)

Rio Grande City, Texas-U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) at the Rio Grande City Port of Entry seized $1,641,000 worth of marijuana on August 26. "This substantial amount of narcotics was detected due to excellent inspectional techniques which begins with our officers' ability to utilize all available tools and resources and applying them towards the ultimate goal, intercepting illicit drugs and keeping them out of our communities," said Acting Port Director Sylvia Gutierrez, Rio Grande City Port of Entry. San Luis, Ariz. - A woman from Somerton, Ariz., was arrested Sunday by Customs and Border Protection officers at the Port of San Luis for attempting to smuggle nearly 47 pounds of methamphetamine, valued at almost $723,000, and more than three pounds of heroin worth an estimated $42,000. (more)

Otay Mesa, Calif. - U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers working at the Otay Mesa cargo facility discovered almost 1,000 pounds of marijuana in a shipment of scrap corrugated cardboard. On Monday, August 26, at about 1 p.m., a CBP officer inspecting a 1999 Freightliner tractor pulling a trailer with a shipment of scrap corrugated cardboard referred the conveyance and shipment to the dock for an intensive examination. Del Rio, Texas - A U.S. Border Patrol canine team assigned to the Del Rio Sector recently assisted the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) in apprehending a man wanted in connection with a double homicide. Monday afternoon, the Texas DPS in San Antonio requested assistance from a Uvalde Border Patrol Station canine unit, which was in the area, in locating Bryant Guillermo Meza Velazquez. (more)

Del Rio, Texas - On Tuesday, U.S. Border Patrol agents assigned to the Del Rio Station rescued a Mexican citizen after he attempted to cross the Rio Grande River.
