County Tries To Fight Deportation Of Ilegal Aliens
Issue Goes Before The Commission Feb. 20th
Immigrant Advocates Hope Law Reforms Offer Protection

Reporting
(CBS4) DORAL Since 9/11, local police have been asked to do more for homeland security, including round up illegal immigrants. It’s a controversial policy that has immigrant advocates crying foul after an incident in Miami-Dade County was caught on camera.
Although many South Florida police departments, such as Miami-Dade police, insist they are not actively going out to arrest illegal immigrants, advocates worry about more illegals getting stopped for something like a simple traffic violation and getting a ticket to deportation.
Eight Miami-Dade commissioners joined local immigrant advocates Wednesday in supporting a proposed county resolution calling for a national moratorium on deportations of illegal aliens who have not committed crimes.
"It makes no sense to deport those who may benefit from fair and comprehensive immigration reform legislation that may be just a few months away," said Commissioner Katy Sorenson.
Ironically, while Miami-Dade commissioners lobby against deportations, last week crews from Spanish TV station America TeVe captured on video a traffic stop that resulted in police calling border patrol to detain a group of illegal aliens.
Edward Esquivel, a political refugee from Colombia, was the cameraman that shot the video. He says one of the one of the border agents even threatened to arrest him.
According to police, they stopped a Chevrolet Suburban because the tags didn’t match the vehicle. The driver was arrested for not having a license, and when the other Latin men in the car couldn't produce id's, the cops called the feds to pick them up as well.
"Under no circumstances does Miami-Dade go out and initiate any of these types of roundups, but in the course of an investigation, if we do find these individuals who are not here legally we have the right or obligation to call customs and border patrol," said Detective Bobby Williams with Miami-Dade Police.
But immigrant rights activists say it’s a bad idea for everyone because it creates a chilling effect that will keep illegal immigrants underground.
"It doesn’t make us safer," said Cheryl Little, with the Florida Immigrant Advocacy Center. "It makes us less safe."
Sorenson says she will talk to the police director about the matter.
The resolution for a deportation moratorium goes before the full Miami-Dade commission on February 20th.Support our FIGHT AGAINST illegal immigration & Amnesty by joining our E-mail Alerts at https://eepurl.com/cktGTn

Since when do we not punish offenders for breaking our laws simply because a piece of legislation might be voted into effect sometime in the future?

Check your logic

Hey author, check your logic please. Illegal aliens who have not committed a crime? That number should = 0. All illegal aliens have committed a crime.
Fix your own country.
Get a job in your own country,
Get health care in your own country,
Educate your kids in your own country,
Drink and drive in your own country,
March in the streets in your own country,
Try to change the laws in your own country.
etc.

Are these criminal alien advocates proposing that law enforcement look the other way when, in the act of their sworn duty, police officers come across criminal aliens? IMHO, that has already been going on for way to long. Furthermore, each time such a scenario plays out it makes a mockery of the "rule of law" and our entire judical system. Next thing you know these folks will be demanding that no criminal alien be charged or apprehended regardless of the crime."The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing" ** Edmund Burke**
