SARASOTA - A driver's license examiner at the Sarasota County Tax Collector's Office was arrested today after she allegedly changed immigrants' citizenship status and provided them licenses, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

Elunda C. Morrison, 43, was charged with a total of 19 criminal violations after being under investigation for four months by the FHP and U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

Authorities said Morrison changed the citizenship status of four people to U.S. Citizen in the drivers license computer system. Changing their status allowed her to renew their expired licenses.

Morrison was arrested on four counts of drivers license fraud, four counts of official misconduct, two counts of unlawful compensation for official behavior, one count of organized fraud, four counts of conspiracy to commit drivers license fraud and four counts of falsifying records.

Morrison is being held at the Sarasota County Jail without bond until her first appearance Saturday morning.

The case remains under investigation and more arrests are expected, a press release from Sarasota County said.

Four illegal immigrants obtained fraudulent driver's licenses from the Sarasota County Tax Collector's Office by paying a clerk cash and painting her house, authorities say.

Investigators have arrested two of the men -- Alejandro Ortolan and Flavio Azzolina -- and are looking for two more in connection with the fraud case.

The clerk, Elunda Morrison, was arrested last week.

Officials say that Ortolan, Azzolina and two others paid between $250 and $700 for the licenses -- and some of the men came back later to paint Morrison's house.

Morrison, who was fired last week, reportedly took the cash in June and gave the men licenses based on fraudulent Social Security numbers.

One of the men, Azzolina, admitted buying a fake Social Security number in Miami and using that number to obtain the license, court records show.

Ortolan told investigators that he used his license to keep the title to his truck, but said that he did not pay Morrison to create the fraudulent card.

Ortolan, 32, and Azzolina, 35, were being held overnight in the Sarasota County jail.

Florida Highway Patrol troopers investigated the case for three months before they arrested Morrison, and found a total of four fraudulent driver's licenses she had issued, court records show.

In the United States, immigrants can obtain a short-term license with the proper documentation. After that period the driver must bring in paperwork, such as a visa, to extend the license.

That paperwork is supposed to be scanned into local computer systems.

But Morrison, authorities and Tax Collector Barbara Ford-Coates have said, was changing the citizenship status and did not scan the documentation.

Ford-Coates said her office has implemented new controls to monitor the clerks.

SARASOTA COUNTY - Four illegal immigrants obtained fraudulent Florida driver's licenses from the Sarasota County Tax Collector's Office by paying Elunda Morrison, a clerk, cash and painting her house, authorities say.

Investigators have arrested two of the men -- Alejandro Ortolan and Flavio Azzolina -- and are looking for two more in connection with the fraud case. The clerk, Elunda Morrison, was arrested last week.

Pilots Mohamed Atta (Fl Driv Lic A300540683210), Ziad Jarrah (Fl Driv Lic J600997751710) and some of the other 9/11 hijacker pals obtained Florida drivers licenses at the Sarasota County Tax Collectors Office in the fall of 2000 and then were issued duplicate drivers licenses when they moved to the East Coast of Florida in early 2001.

Mohamed Atta purchased a red 1989 Pontiac Grand Prix in Venice and had Fl Tag D79-DDV issued on 7/17/2000 when he registered the vehicle at the Sarasota County Tag Office he used Fl driv lic A300540683210, (see below click image to enlarge), Atta obtained a duplicate lic. in Coral Springs 5/02/2001.

From Miami News on 9/11/01. FBI investigators are still looking for a two-door, red, 1989 Pontiac Grand Prix with the Florida license plate D79-DDV. Agents have traced that car back to Atta in Venice, Fl, although Atta's driver's license shows address in Coral Springs.


Sarasota County, of all places you would think that Sarasota Fl where the 9/11 hi-jackers initially trained, would be the most vigilant in issuing drivers licenses.

Alejandro Ortolan and Flavio Azzolina have prior arrests in Sarasota County, Alejandro Ortolan was arrested on 4/28/2001 for no drivers license and then again on 12/07/2004 for attaching a bogus license plate to a vehicle. Flavio Azzolina was arrested on 12/19/2006 for no drivers license, all of these prior charges should have peeked the interest of the Bureau of Immigration and Enforcement (ICE), if they were notified !

Elunda Morrison, Felony Charges: -Driver License Fraud- Supplying Driver License (F.S.S. 322.212.4) - 4 counts-Unlawful Compensation for Official Behavior (F.S.S. 838.016) - 2 counts-Official Misconduct (F.S.S. 838.022.1) - 4 counts-Organized Fraud (F.S.S. 817.034.4.a.3) - 1 count Misdemeanor Charges: -Conspiracy to Commit Driver License Fraud (F.S.S. 777.04.03) - 4 counts-Falsifying Records (F.S.S. 839.13) - 4 counts.

There should be Federal Charges filed against Elunda Morrison, the implications as to what she has done go far beyond just State Felony charges.

This investigation is ongoing and further arrests are imminent.

Well, the article is already here and has been read by many readers.

Welcome, billww! And while this website posters occasionally veer off to the campaigns and the economic mess, the underlying message is that we probably wouldn't have half the problems we do without the open borders, cheap labor at any cost policy that has been slid through by governments over the years, including starting with Carter and carrying on. After all, gotta get reelected and need those campaign contributions from the corporations, et al, that have all the money.
