BOYNTON BEACH, Fla. - Officials with the U.S. Border Patrol said that six undocumented migrants were taken into custody early Monday morning.

The migrants, all Haitians, were found to have come ashore in Boynton Beach.

Border Patrol thinks they may have come to the U.S. from the Bahamas.

Thirteen undocumented migrants come ashore in Boynton Beach

    BOYNTON BEACH —

Thirteen undocumented migrants were detained Monday morning after coming ashore in Boynton Beach, U.S. Border Patrol said.

Eight men and five women from Haiti were smuggled aboard a vessel coming from the Bahamas, authorities said.

They were processed and turned over the Immigration and Customs Enforcement for deportation.

“This was an organized smuggling event,” said Frank Miller, operations officer at the Miami Sector of the Border Patrol. “These smugglers have no regard for the safety of the migrants.”

The landing was no fewer than the 17th attempt by people from places such as Haiti, Cuba, Ecuador and the Dominican Republic to come ashore in Palm Beach through Monroe counties during 2014.

During Labor Day weekend, 23 undocumented immigrants from Haiti and Jamaica were detained as they tried to come ashore in Manalapan. All of them — 18 adults and five children, one of them a boy traveling without his parents — were being processed Monday to be returned to their home countries.

Since October, the Coast Guard has picked up more than 3,000 undocumented migrants, most of them at seas, in its district that extends from Florida to South Carolina.
