Flake-Gutierrez bill is not the solution to immigration woes

Flake-Gutierrez bill is not the solution to immigration woes

    Thursday, May 17, 2007

In case you haven't noticed, our nation is being sold down the river by the very people who are supposed to represent us. This so-called "Treason Lobby" is headed by President Bush, Vice President Cheney, Sens. Kennedy, McCain and Clinton, Secretary Rice and a virtual "Who's Who" cadre of other officials from both sides of the aisle. This group serves as cronies for big business, caving into demands for a cheap source of labor.

This country has been invaded by an estimated 12-20 million illegal immigrants, many of whom are determined to eliminate all "gringos" in the Southwest. They have filled our schools with children, bankrupted numerous medical care facilities, inflated welfare rolls and made the largest single contribution to crime in this country in the last 100 years. They constitute more than 30 percent of all prisoners in the federal prison system. Their gangs control the streets in several California cities.

Most of them don't want to become citizens of the United States. They want to own it.

According to President Bush, the U.S. should provide a "lawful path for foreign workers" and "honor the great American tradition of the melting pot" by granting these illegals carte blanche residency. Enter the Flake-Gutierrez STRIVE Act, H.R.1645. This proposed law, almost 700 pages long, is the best example of legislative gobbledygook that I've ever seen. It is so perforated with loopholes that it should be rightly called "The Swiss cheese act of 2007." It is an unenforceable mess.

There is insufficient space here for me to elaborate on all of the act's provisions. I encourage you to look it up on Google and read the entire text. Suffice it to say that any illegal would be able to get citizenship by meeting some minimum, no-pain requirements and paying a minimum fine. It's blanket amnesty, no matter what the sponsors say. The problem here is that many illegals don't even want to do the minimums; they want a completely free ride.

There is a "Sneaky Pete" move afoot right now to slip this legislation through Congress and onto the president's desk. There may be an attempt to attach it as a rider to some other bill. I strongly urge readers to contact their representatives by telephone or on the Internet and demand that they vote "no" on any attempt to get this bill enacted into law. It is a repugnant piece of paper that insults every American citizen and every legitimate applicant for U.S. citizenship.

"We're working on it" is the most common reply heard from the White House when asked about the Southwest invasion. The president has signed H.R. 6061, the Secure Fence Act of 2006, but Congress has so far failed to fund this law. The fence is not being built and very likely will not be built during Bush's remaining term. Something else to add to your phone call.

President Eisenhower, whom I never particularly liked, at least had the guts to direct the Immigration and Naturalization Service (INS) to crack down on the illegals in 1954. Dubbed "Operation Wetback" by the INS, more than 1,000 Border Patrol agents along with state and local agencies were ordered to round up Mexican illegals, load them onto trains, buses and ships and move them deep within Mexico before setting them free. INS estimated that one million illegals eventually returned to their homeland, many of them voluntarily to avoid apprehension.

Eisenhower took action. Why can't this Congress and this president do the same?

Congressman Brian Bilbray was on the Roger Hedgecock Show yesterday. He said our people in DC are calling this bill the "Flakey Gutierrez Bill"
