Former Mexican leader misses 'great' US leadership
Former Mexican leader misses 'great' US leadership
By JOHN MILBURN
ASSOCIATED PRESS WRITER
MANHATTAN, Kan. -- Former Mexican President Vicente Fox expressed hope Tuesday that a new U.S. administration will find a mutually beneficial solution to immigration and restore America's standing in the world.
Fox said the United States and the Bush administration have been too focused since 9/11 on related issues to be the example that other democracies expected from previous administrations.
"We missed that great leadership in this nation. We need it back," Fox said.
Fox did not disclose his preference between presidential candidates Barack Obama and John McCain, offering his choice of "Palin and Hillary" instead.
He said that tandem of Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin and New York Sen. Hillary Clinton was in keeping with his belief that women bring love and compassion to everything they do.
Fox spoke for 45 minutes to more than 1,500 people at Kansas State University, lecturing primarily on immigration. He said Mexico was doing its part to find a solution by improving its economy and strengthening its democracy but the United States has to find a way to manage immigration that doesn't punish Mexicans already across the border.
"I think it's a must that we dedicate time and we come with the proper ideas. We have to manage immigration and not let the issue run loose," Fox said.
He cautioned U.S. policy makers not to continue putting up legal barriers and fences with Mexico.
"We should not be building walls between Mexico and the United States. We should be building bridges," he said.
Fox said his family left Germany to come to the United States, settling in Ohio. His grandfather moved to Mexico in 1895 and worked as a night watchman who eventually owned the company.
He said the North American Free Trade Agreement had increased the per capita income in Mexico and helped many people rise out of poverty.
"I know we have problems. We have poverty. We have violence," Fox said. "We are trying hard to do our best."
Still, he said, the agreement needs to mature to further strengthen the economic relationship, much the way the European Union has helped nations like Spain, Ireland and Greece rise without bringing down partners like France, Germany or the United Kingdom.
Fox was president of Mexico from 2000 to 2006.

He said Mexico was doing its part to find a solution by improving its economy and strengthening its democracy but the United States has to find a way to manage immigration that doesn't punish Mexicans already across the border. Mexico is doing NOTHING, just pushing its unwanted citizens across our borders and this WILL stop!
He cautioned U.S. policy makers not to continue putting up legal barriers and fences with Mexico. OR WHAT? What you gonna do? cry? BUILD THE WALL!!!!
"We should not be building walls between Mexico and the United States. We should be building bridges," he said. WE DEMAND walls, don't care diddly what you want.
He said the North American Free Trade Agreement had increased the per capita income in Mexico and helped many people rise out of poverty. Really? then why are your people still sneaking over our southern border?!?!
"I know we have problems. We have poverty. We have violence," Fox said. "We are trying hard to do our best." Your best isn't good enough, try harder and take your citizens back, along with their anchors! We will accept no less.

Same old talk. And from what I've read NAFTA has not helped his country. Probably has some of their business people but not their workers. If it had helped why do so many continue to cross our border?
Would be nice to have a great leader but don't see that happening soon.Support our FIGHT AGAINST illegal immigration & Amnesty by joining our E-mail Alerts at https://eepurl.com/cktGTn

Fox is shameless. He and the rest of the Mexican power structure have ripped off and run their country into the ground while they continue to expect US middle class taxpayers to prop up their failed society.
