One of the former Panda Express employees charged with criminal-impersonation last year, was ordered to be deported Tuesday by an immigration judge.
Roselia Araceli Torres-Ruiz was granted voluntary departure within 60 days, but she and her lawyer plan on appealing the ruling.
Torres-Ruiz and 10 other employees were each indicted on a single count of aggravated taking the identity of another, after working with social security numbers that didn’t belong to them. They later pleaded guilty to the less serious charge of criminal impersonation.
They all were sentenced to the time they’d already served of about four months.
All of the employees except for three are already back in Mexico. The remaining three, including Torres-Ruiz, are appealing their potential deportation.
Arguing against deportation, attorney Maurice Goldman told Judge Thomas O’Leary she met the requirements to avoid deportation.
She has been here at least 10 years, is of good moral character and deportation would cause “exceptional and or extremely unusual hardshipâ€
