MOUNT LAUREL — Six men accused of plotting to attack soldiers on Fort Dix were indicted by a grand jury today.

The men were charged last month with planning the attack, which never happened.

While nothing about the indictment was a surprise — it was expected to happen within several months, and the information in it had already been made public — it does move the case forward.

Now, the men will be able to enter pleas at an arraignment, likely this week or next.

Also, their defense lawyers can ask government prosecutors to share evidence.

Mohamad Ibrahim Shnewer, Serdar Tatar and the brothers Dritan, Eljvir and Shain Duka are all charged with conspiring to kill military personnel, which is punishable by life in prison.

Dritan and Shain Duka are also charged with possession of machine guns. And all three Duka brothers are also charged with possession of weapons by illegal immigrants.

A sixth man, Agron Abdullahu, is charged with providing weapons to illegal immigrants, a crime punishable by up to 10 years in federal prison.

The men, all foreign-born and in their 20s, have been held without bail in a federal
detention center since they were arrested on May 7.
