Fox vs. Chavez
Fox vs. Chavez
December 12, 2007
Alvaro Vargas Llosa
SAN CRISTOBAL RANCH, Mexico—Vicente Fox is defying that old Mexican tradition by which presidents become nonentities once they leave office. As Fox’s recent tour of the United States to promote his autobiography indicates, this former Mexican president is speaking out and building a front to stop Venezuela’s Hugo Chavez from spreading his revolution.
Although Fox presided over an admirable transition from the one-party era of the Institutional Revolutionary Party (PRI) to multiparty democracy, he was unwilling to push through a series of unpopular but necessary reforms during his single term as president. Now the fire in his belly is back.
I recently spent a day with Fox at his family’s San Cristobal Ranch in Guanajuato state, where he is building a huge center that will serve as a think tank, cultural venue, library and consulting firm. He is enlisting the help of former Brazilian President Fernando Henrique Cardoso and former Chilean President Ricardo Lagos for his campaign in favor of the rule of law and the market economy.

No, Fox is not a fool. We resent his intrusion into American politics because he wants to force his poor, uneducated on us. But when it comes to Chavez, he is right!

First off, whether you like Chavez or not - we probably have him to thank that we are not, as we speak, a member state of a 'Western Hemisphere Union'. Read what Fox said.
While Chavez is certainly not the kind of government we want - but ask youself why this President and the media are always hammering on Chavez. He is a blow hard - braggart, etc., but just look back on our President's rhetoric.
Our President invaded a sovereign country supposedly to install the type of government he thought they should have. We know that was an afterthought, but that's what he said.
Mexico is a very, very wealthy nation in terms of resources, the richest man in the world lives there, yet they send millions and millions of their poor here and demand we feed them, etc. They have the audacity to talk about how ANY other country is run - Chavez's - but especially the US.
Mexico would side with Chavez in a NY minute if we sent its illegals home and shut off its foreign aid. We are paying extortion to Mexico by taking it's poor and allowing their interference in our country.
Don't you think the 'visit' by Iran was just a little threat to the US? Upping the ante?
He isn't a saint, by any means, but neither do I think he is the lone satan they make him out to be. He is just one satan in a whole field of satans.
When the media hammers someone, it's time to do some independent thinking - they have their agenda and it is seldom ours.Join our efforts to Secure America's Borders and End Illegal Immigration by Joining ALIPAC's E-Mail Alerts network (CLICK HERE)
