This very help for illegals (although these same people will step right over a homeless American of any color) is one of the things that makes it so hard in this state to stem the flow.

Rick, you are so right!! And this is yet another connection between the Catholic Church and illegal immigration into the United States.
I wonder, have they done more?
I wonder, too, how the concept of Globalism with a Ruling Elite will treat religion. Perhaps there has been an accommodation to allow one, the one with more financial investments than any religion known to Man. Perhaps the Catholic Church expects to lead all the prayers of the Globally Elite and tend to the spiritual needs of the Masses....no pun intended...wink wink.
Perhaps like the Chicanos enamored with La Raza, the Catholic Church has enamorings of its own like putting those forever Pesky Americans in their Place.
And so while we query Why, they query, Why Not?
Leading to the "must be asked" question: Is the Catholic Church part of the to-be "Globally Elite"?A Nation Without Borders Is Not A Nation - Ronald Reagan

Citizenship Day
It is also quite possible that the Church in question is just trying to do something they think is "nice" and that they are trying to reach out to the community for new members -- and their tithes! Wouldn't you agree it is entirely possible that someone within the Church thought "well this is a good idea for outreach and will make us look good, too"!
Unless the Vatican directed them to do so, it might not be part of any scheme for globalization. If every Catholic Church across the USA was doing the same thing on the same day, that would be a different story. It would speak loudly towards the involvement of the Church.
Just my view on what it "might" be. We don't want to sound paranoid right now. That is going to be the downfall of many organizations ultimately.

It's got some great marketing though-changes it's stances every few years and a little loophole called purgatory.

Very sad that a religious organization that states it believes in Jesus could be part of globalism but I believe its true. The church has certain policies and doctrines that contradict human survival with evolving wealth.
