GA: Lawmaker: Illegal Immigrants' Cars Should Be Seized

Lawmaker: Illegal Immigrants' Cars Should Be Seized

    UPDATED: 4:29 pm EST February 13, 2008

ATLANTA -- Immigrant groups are pouncing on a bill that’s gaining steam at the state Capitol to allow the seizure of cars belonging to illegal immigrants.

On any given day in Georgia, thousands of illegal immigrants are driving on the roadways, many of them uninsured.

State Rep. James Mills said he wants to make all illegal immigrants think twice before getting behind the wheel.

“The front door and the back door of our nation has been kicked in,â€

Why should illegal invaders be exempt from the law!

American Citizens are already subject to loss of vehicle if they are pulled over and cannot produce a valid drivers license, insurance, etc.

Just another example of American Citizens being discriminated against because we happen to have been born in this country. It's time those in this country illegally begin to feel the full rath of law just as American Citizens are subject.

Sarah Katz is a policy analyst for the Mexican American Legal Defense and Education Fund. She wants to know how legal immigrants will be able to prove they’re legal on the side of the road.

In AZ, a car is supposed to be impounded if the driver can't prove 2 out of the following 3 points: 1)it is registered 2)it is insured 3)the person driving it has a legal license.
If the driver, legal or illegal, can't prove 2 out of the 3, the vehicle should be impounded for 30 days, and that should give them plenty of time to get the paperwork proving they are here legally. If they have out of country plates, or a foreign license, there should be a way to check when they crossed the border, for what purpose, how far from the border they were supposed to be going, and when they (and their vehicle) was due back in their own country. (there are so many vehicles in my neighborhood with Mexican plates, that have been here for a year now. Legal immigrants are supposed to register in AZ, they've been reported to the MVD, and still no ticket, yet if they lived here over 30 days with a California plate, they would have been ticketed by now and would have to get registered here) so If they overstayed, the vehicle should be impounded and sold, and they should be deported. If they have a foreign registration and a US license, they should prove they told the truth on their license application, or be deported (ie - not using a fake/stolen SSN to get that license). If they can't prove they are legal, the vehicle is registered at the same address as on their license and insurance, the vehicle is insured, and they have a valid driver's license, the vehicle should be sold. What's so difficult about this?

It's the same in CA, although some jurisdictions that have been given to Mexico (like Maywood) ignore it.

It is impossible to find out the SOP here in NYC when an IA is pulled over but an American citizen MUST provide a valid drivers license, insurance, etc.

Anyone inquiring about the SOP for IA's is deemed a racist!

Huh? Aren't legal immigrants supposed to carry their immigration cards with them at all times?
