The Delano Police Department Gang Unit received information Thursday that gang members planned to run into random cars, and then shoot the driver.

Local resident, Alma Herrera said, "Well it's really scary just to know someone's out there to rear end you and not knowing the consequences. There are so many people out there, especially senior citizens, who don't know what's going on. They get rear ended and they get scared. I mean I'm scared."

Some Delano residents have been to frightened to drive the streets since the Delano Police received information of possible gang initiations.

Delano Police sent out a release urging people to use caution.

The release said gang members were told to bump cars from behind and "as the driver of the victim vehicle exits, the prospective members will open fire."

Since then, stories of the gang initiations have been spreading like wildfire.

Many people received this text message saying: "This is no joke" and linking the initiations to the criminal gang MS-13.

Numerous reports of a possible gang initiation shooting on Q Street earlier have had people worried as well.

Sgt. Greg Terry of the Bakersfield Police Department said, "The City of Bakersfield Police Department has not received any reports of any shooting thus far today (Friday)."

The Delano Police Department released another statement saying they are still investigating the possible gang initiations.

A source provided the Delano Police Department with information that said the story of gang initiation violence was started on the East Coast and is not credible.

So is this article saying the reports are false because nobody has been shot? I do not understand the last paragraph on this. Anyone care to look into this?

There is a news report video related to this. It says they are still investigating but feel the story isn't credible. Apparently due to so many people getting this warning via text messages. Here's the link to the video:

This is very credible. It was a big thing in the 80's on the East Coast. They would target lone women on dark roads and bump her car from behind. When the women would pull over, the scum would haul her off to the side of the road and rape her.
