    Yep, seems that way.

Lewiston, state police follow up leads in brawl that led to man’s death

Meanwhile, the brother of victim Donald Giusti says he's disappointed that the community has not appeared to move any closer toward healing the rift that led to the confrontation between two groups.
    BY CHRISTOPHER WILLIAMSSUN JOURNAL

LEWISTON — Police are sifting through photographs and videos posted on social media, studying street surveillance footage and conducting nearly 100 interviews with witnesses as they continue to investigate the beating death of a Lewiston man last month near Kennedy Park.
No arrests have been made in the June 12 incident in which Donald Giusti, 38, was badly beaten and died days later.

    Donald Giusti

Witnesses said Giusti was beaten as two groups clashed near the downtown park late that night. The brawl was said to have been the result of ongoing disputes between the two groups.
“We’re still actively working on it, steadfastly, with state police,” Lewiston Police Lt. David St. Pierre said Tuesday. “We’ve been very busy on it.”
Maine State Police investigators are being assisted by the Computer Crimes Task Force in reviewing materials on the internet, according to St. Pierre.
“I would say that at some point, hopefully, these leads that we’ve been following will turn into charges,” he said.
City officials recently imposed a 10 p.m. curfew for all of Kennedy Park, changed from previous curfews that had been set for different times for the two sides of the park.
Police are continuing foot patrols in and around the park, urging the public not to congregate or create a nuisance, St. Pierre said.
“They’ve been pretty good about policing themselves,” he said.
The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner has not released the cause or manner of Giusti’s death.
Brian Veres, Giusti’s older brother, said Tuesday his family was disappointed that the community has not appeared to move any closer toward healing the rift that led to the confrontation that night and, ultimately, to his brother’s death.
Veres said the silence around the incident is not productive. He and his family fear the situation is worsening and likely to erupt into violence again.
Giusti’s four children, who live in Lewiston, do not feel safe in the area of Kennedy Park, he said, and Giusti’s family has been the subject of indirect threats.
“We want people to feel safe there,” Veres said. “We want people in the community to know that this doesn’t have to keep happening.”
A similar clash occurred in May, Veres said.
Residents who live downtown should be vocal in demanding that peace be restored to that area, and that Kennedy Park belong again to the entire community, he said.
His family made an effort to bring the downtown community together in the wake of Giusti’s death by hosting a public memorial service and barbecue in his name. The gathering included many ethnic groups, he said. He had hoped that effort would continue, but he has not seen that happen.
“Right now, the community is in an uproar,” Veres said, referring to feelings of “hate” in messages through social channels.
“That’s not going to help at all,” he said. “There’s no point in getting hate involved in it because then it’s just going to escalate and the whole community’s going to suffer for it.”
Veres hopes his brother’s death can be a catalyst for positive change, he said.
“Donnie’s murder, it’s horrible,” Veres said. “But as for Donnie, he’s no longer with us anymore. He’s at peace.”
An organ donor, Giusti helped others even in death, Veres said.
“That’s a great thing, because he’s giving other people an opportunity to live out their lives … so that other families don’t have to suffer,” he said.

Lewiston Living in Fear: One Man Killed in Clash with Young Somali Mob

    Posted on June 14, 2018 (June 21, 2018

    ***UPDATE, 6/16/18***
The victim of this brutal beating has unfortunately passed away.

Donald Giusti, 38, of Lewiston, succumbed to his injuries Friday at Central Maine Medical Center.

If anyone is is interested in donating to help the family pay for Giusti’s funeral services, donations can be made at the Salvation Army on 67 Park St. in Lewiston. Just let them know you’re looking to donate to services for Donald Giusti.
In a low-blow, a Portland Press Herald “journalist” chose the day of Giusti’s — or Donny as his friends called him — death to criticize the father of two’s character. The characterization appears to be an attempt to mitigate the blame for the assailants.

Maine First Media’s prayers are with Giusti’s friends and family in this difficult time.

6/14/18, Maine First Media Staff Report,

In the aftermath of uncharted tensions between Somalis and non-Somalis in Lewiston, one man is fighting for his life after being hit with a brick during a violent brawl.

According to Lewiston Police, the street fight broke out on Knox St. near Kennedy Park around 10:45 pm Tuesday night.

At least two dozen teenagers and pre-teens swarmed and assaulted three adult men with bats, sticks, rocks, bricks, fists and feet.

Above is cellphone video from the scene following the brutal beating.

According to Lewiston Police Department Public Information Officer, Lieutenant Dave St. Pierre, Maine State Police are now the lead agency investigating the potentially fatal incident. The handover is due to the critical nature of the victim’s condition. Lt. St. Pierre says Lewiston police are still aiding in the investigation.

While there is no official police report on what caused the melee, by piecing together various witness accounts, we can give a very basic outline.

Residents say tensions were high as harassment in the area around the park has been particularly bad the past couple of moths — including previous attacks by a gang of Somali kids at Kennedy Park. Word had spread about an anticipated fight that was going to erupt at the park Tuesday evening. So, a group of friends gathered looking for retribution. From witness reports it does sound like some members of the group had been drinking.

At one point, a car drove by and passengers opened fire into Kennedy Park with BB or pellet guns. The vehicle pulled over on Knox St., a few people from the park — including the victim — rushed over to confront the mob in the car.
Almost instantly, the three men were bombarded by at least a couple dozen young Somalis brandishing weapons. Police arrived quickly, but the assailants had already fled the scene.

One man –who was beaten with a brick to the head — was taken to the hospital and is listed in critical condition.

Wednesday, emotions were still boiling as residents gathered and discussed the tragic events of the prior night. According to Lt. St. Pierre, there were no further confrontations.

“To my knowledge, there have been no outward confrontations,” Lt. St. Pierre said. “Though people have been milling about and this issue is certainly a topic of concern for the community.”

Many residents who live in the area say they are in fear. Some Lewiston parents say they’re even scared to take their kids to the park.

Following an attack last month, Lewiston Police added extra patrols to Kennedy Park. Still, many Lewiston residents wish more could be done to make the city safe again. A common suggestion has been adding security cameras to the Kennedy Park area.

Lt. St. Pierre tells Maine First Media police do already have cameras pointing to various locations of the park.

If you have any information that could help with the investigation, Lt. St. Pierre urges you to contact State Police at 207-624-7200.

Maine First Media will continue to report on any new developments to this story.

Maine: Lewiston man BEATEN TO DEATH by Muslim migrant mob in bloody melee

By Pamela Geller - on June 16, 2018

    MUSLIM IMMIGRATION: THE HIJRAH
    160

In the wake of the bloody melee, a curfew is in place in Lewiston, a longtime gateway city for Somali migrantresettlement. And increasingly, Lewiston, Maine resembles Manchester, UK or Saint-Denis, France than an American city.
Police said Thursday a man who was badly beaten two days earlier in a nighttime brawl near Kennedy Park remains in guarded condition.

A clash of two groups occurred on Knox Street after teens in a car reportedly drove past the park and shot pellets and BBs at a group gathered there, according to Sun Journal sources who said they witnessed the events. Several members of the group pursued the car to Knox Street, where a melee broke out, the teens reportedly wielding sticks, bats and bricks, Sun Journal sources said. (Press Herald)
Mainstream media reports have scrubbed, censored the Muslim migrant mob from their sharia compliant reportage. When migrants attack, it’s a “clash.” Learn to read “enemedia.”

Echoes of Europe, and a glimpse into our future. This is more of the poison fruit of the reckless, feckless immigration policies that the Obama administration relentlessly pursued, bringing whole Somali Muslim communities into the U.S. and placing them in American communities that were ill-equipped to deal with the violence, tribalism, and ongoing gang warfare that is rapidly becoming a feature of all too many American cities. This is the America that the Democrats wanted, and still want. They don’t care about the welfare and safety of Americans; they only care about the votes that these migrant communities will deliver to them.

Asked whether race played a role in Tuesday’s altercation, St. Pierre said: “There were certainly different ethnic origins involved in the fight. I don’t know exactly how many. We get reports or I’ve seen on social media and other outlets that people are saying there are as many as 30 or 40 people from different ethnic backgrounds. I don’t know that to be accurate.”

The police investigation will help determine who was involved and why, he said. But the participants don’t appear to be the same individuals each time nor the same groups of people.
“We’re still working strongly in concert with the Maine State Police,” which is leading the investigation, he said. Detectives from the two agencies are working together to seek out and interview “as many witnesses as possible at this point,” he said. (Press Herald)

Lewiston, ME: another huge government grant for special people—you guessed it—Somalis!

Posted by Ann Corcoran on October 3, 2016

Update October 5: Michael Leahy at Breitbart has written more on your tax dollars going to Maine’s large Somali community, here.

Do you think that maybe the Obama Administration is literally breaking the bank to give your money away before it clears out of DC for good. Just the other day we learned that a Somali ‘community’ group was given $300,000 to combat sexual abuse in the East African (that’s what they call Somalis when they don’t want to use the ‘S’ word) community and now this!

The USDA has awarded a $400,000 grant to help Somalis eat better and reconnect with their roots! No kidding!

From the CTPost: Curbing food insecurity!

LEWISTON, Maine (AP) — The United States Department of Agriculture is committing nearly $400,000 to increase food access for the Somali community in Lewiston.

Limited food access for Somalis in Lewiston?

Members of the Somali Bantu community in the city are partnering with the Cumberland County Food Security Council on the project. The funding is expected to support Somalis’ agriculture and help them reconnect with their cultural heritage.

The USDA says the objectives of the project include building the capacity of the Somali Bantu community and its farmers to produce food and address the problem of limited food access. The agency describes the Somali Bantu community as the poorest community in the city, which is the second largest city in the state.

Cumberland County Food Security Council will recruit people in the community to help increase access to healthy food.

I wonder is Maine’s Republican Senator Susan Collins involved in this giveaway too?

By the way, the next time you see one of those articles in which the resettlement industry brags about how refugees bring economic booms to struggling towns, remember this! In the case of Lewiston, there is now an additional $700,000 sloshing around the community. But, it is still tax money coming from the money tree growing in Washington (joke of course).

It is not that the Somalis have helped the economy in the way the industry wants you to think—it is basically welfare dollars flowing from your pockets to theirs!

More Federal Money for Somali Refugees in Maine
    3 Oct 2016

    Michael Patrick Leahy

The federal government is sending more taxpayer money to Somali refugees in Maine.

“The United States Department of Agriculture is committing nearly $400,000 to increase food access for the Somali community in Lewiston,” the Associated Press reports:

Members of the Somali Bantu community in the city are partnering with the Cumberland County Food Security Council on the project. The funding is expected to support Somalis’ agriculture and help them reconnect with their cultural heritage.

The USDA says the objectives of the project include building the capacity of the Somali Bantu community and its farmers to produce food and address the problem of limited food access. The agency describes the Somali Bantu community as the poorest community in the city, which is the second largest city in the state.

Cumberland County Food Security Council will recruit people in the community to help increase access to healthy food.

News of this grant comes on the heels of a $300,000 federal grant designed to help limit domestic assaults occurring in Maine’s Somali community.

“The federal Office on Violence Against Women is giving a Maine immigration resource center $300,000 for sexual assault and domestic violence advocacy in the immigrant community,” according to the Washington Times.

“The money is going to Immigration Resource Center of Maine, which is located in Lewiston. The center was formerly called the United Somali Women of Maine,” the Timesreports.

Maine has the third highest Somali refugee resettlement rate of all the states in the country, as Breitbart News reported previously:

Ninety-seven thousand three hundred and eighty-five Somali refugees have been resettled in the United States in the fifteen years since FY 2002, of which 15,710 were resettled in Minnesota, more than any other state in the country, according to the Department of State’s interactive website.

Trailing Minnesota in the top ten states for Somali refugee resettlement since FY 2002 are Ohio (7,551), Texas (7,195), New York (6,169), Arizona (5,682), Georgia (4,113), California (3,731), Missouri (3,246), Massachusetts (3,156), and Tennessee (2,958.
Minnesota also leads the country in the number of Somali refugees resettled over these fifteen years on a per capita basis, with 286.2 Somali refugees resettled per 100,000 residents of the state. (The state’s 2015 population was 5.5 million).

Only two states come close to Minnesota’s per capita Somali refugee resettlement number: North Dakota and Maine.

North Dakota experienced a 131.7 Somali refugee resettlement rate per 100,000 residents (997 refugees over fifteen years in a state with a 2015 population of 756,927).
Maine experienced a 117.9 Somali refugee resettlement rate per 100,000 residents (1,568 refugees over fifteen years in a state with a 2015 population of 1.3 million).

The growing Somali refugee community in the United States has been considered a likely center of terrorism recruitment for some time.

“To date, more than 60 young Somali men and women have left Minnesota to join al-Shabaab, the Islamic State, and other Islamic terrorist organizations in the Middle East and Africa,” Ian Tuttle wrote at National Review back in September of 2015.:

Others have been stopped at local airports attempting to make the journey, and prosecutions for sending money to terrorist outfits abroad are not uncommon. The FBI has begun to monitor the community, and it is the target of a federal pilot program to counter violent extremism. That program will focus especially on Minneapolis’s Cedar Riverside neighborhood — or, as locals call it, “Little Mogadishu.”

Dahir Adan, whose attack of ten Americans at a mall in St. Cloud, Minnesota on September 17 was likely motivated by “inspiration from radical Islamic groups,” FBI Director James Comey said recently.

Maine has at least one known link to terrorism among its refugee community. An Iraqi refugee, Adnan Fazelli, who lived in Maine for several years after being initially resettled in Pennsylvania, left his family in Maine to fight for ISIS in 2013. He was killed in a battle in Lebanon in 2015.
