Glenn Beck's Selective Respect For "Our Rule Of Law&quo
Beck Videos at the source link.
Glenn Beck was full of hammy outrage yesterday (3/18/09) over what he viewed as a disregard for the rule of law by a Congress that wants to abrogate the AIG bonuses. And yet, later on the show, he made fun of a legal case in which two border agents were tried and found guilty of shooting a Mexican drug smuggler. With video.
Beck started out his show as he always does, with his show-offy editorial otherwise known as “The One Thing.â€

The writer of this blog, opinion or otherwise group of words doesn't even list her last name. No last name, no credibility.
This is not a news article.Big Business wants cheap labor,

1. Ramos and Compean put their guns away and didn't arrest the drug smuggler because he fled into Mexico where our Border Patrol Agents can't go.
2. Ramos and Compean are not bad guys. The drug smuggler is a bad guy which is why he's behind bars now for the next 10 years and after a swelling of support, Ramos and Compean are free with millions of Americans working hard to clear their names.

The way I understand it, the bonuses were written into the AIG contract last April. When the AIG bail-out bill was drafted (by Geitner according to the New York Times), an exemption was included that stated that all bonuses contractually established (which these ostensibly were) can be paid. So the rule of law would seem to be that AIG complied with the specific requirements of the bailout areement.
I do not like the bail out. I do not like the idea of taxpayer bailout money going to AIG executives who probably should be fired, rather than rewarded (or in this case 'retained', since these were retention bonuses). But it looks to me as if AIG did comply with the letter of the law.
As for the Congressional outrage.....Are Barney Frank, Chris Dodd, Maxine Waters, et al going to be docked for their part in covering up Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac mis-management/midconduct? Are G.W. Bush, John McCain, et al going to be docked for not following up on what they knew to be mis-mangement in the mortgage programs (saying there is a problem, and then walking away from it when the Democrats deny it does not cut it with me...if they knew there was a problem they should have persistently pursued it)?
