BOSTON (WWLP) - In December, Governor Deval Patrick said that he would sign the "Secure Communities" accord, which would send the fingerprints of all suspects arrested in the state to the US Bureau of Immigration and Customs Enforcement. Anyone fingerprinted with undocumented status in the country would face deportation proceedings.
Patrick has holding off on implementing the federal program, however, and is waiting to receive feedback from public hearings being held across the state.
The Massachusetts Immigrant and Refugee Advocacy Coalition says that the program is redundant, because the 287 G accord already requires the fingerprints of violent criminals to be sent to ICE. This "Secure Communities" program targets low level offenders, such as traffic violators.
Proponents of the federal program say that lawmakers should go even further to deport illegal immigrants. "We have a State House that seems to only care about the law-breaking illegals instead of all illegals that are costing every community in this state and in this country a great deal of stress by being over-burdened," said Joe O’Malley, who was in Boston Friday to protest illegal immigration.
This week, the governor of Illinois announced that his state will be opting out of the Secure Communities program, which is nevertheless scheduled to be implemented nationwide in 2013.

Don't reward the criminal actions of millions of illegal aliens by giving them citizenship.
