Governors want more federal cash for imprisoning illegals
PHOENIX Governors of 10 states, including Brad Henry of Oklahoma, are urging President Bush to include full reimbursement for states' costs of imprisoning illegal immigrants convicted of crimes when he submits his proposed federal budget next year.
Arizona Governor Janet Napolitano's office says she and California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger were spearheading the effort to increase funding for the State Criminal Alien Assistance Program administered by the U-S Justice Department.
The letter says that until the federal government secures the border, the funding is needed and deserved by states that have, quote, "to fill this gap by policing the regions and incarcerating criminal aliens at their own considerable expense."
Other state governors who signed the letter were Bill Richardson of New Mexico, Thomas Vilsack of Iowa, Christine Gregoire of Washington, Phil Bredesen of Tennessee, Jon Corzine of New Jersey, Ted Kulongoski of Oregon and Kathleen Sebelius of Kansas.Support our FIGHT AGAINST illegal immigration & Amnesty by joining our E-mail Alerts at https://eepurl.com/cktGTn

Why isn't Florida on this list if it is the number 3 state with the biggest illegal alien problem AND if at least one Sheriff of one of the most populated metropolitan areas is claiming that the county jail is so full that he is concerned about security?
Why aren't the leaders in Florida asking for help? Can someone explain this?Join our efforts to Secure America's Borders and End Illegal Immigration by Joining ALIPAC's E-Mail Alerts network (CLICK HERE)

But illegals are all good hearted, law abiding, heroic, honest, family values type folk, who are only here to save us Americans from wallowing in our own feces. After all we are all too lazy to possibly care for ourselves without these innocent migrant worker's tireless hard work and honest values. That's what Bush, the media, MALDEF, La Raza, the Chamber of Commerce, etc. all say. And you know Bush has never been wrong on anything before. Look how well he has handled things like Iraq. And of course the media, La Raza, MALDEF and the Chamber of Commerce have no bias or hidden agenda. This is all a conspiracy created by the right wing, nationalistic, restrictionist, xenophobic, genocidal, murdering, migrant hunting, Latino hating Minuteman types.

NO EXCUSES, NO SYMPATHY, AND NO MONEY FOR GOVERNORS
Oh I've been waiting for this one!
I heard it from whiney Congressman Brad Sherman of CA while he was campaigning in support of Steve Westley for Governor in Oct. My question to the candidate was "what will you do as Governor to make sure there is state legislation to support and supplement the control and enforcement of laws on illegal immigration and fight to punish the offenders. He instead gave the rehearsed Kennedy/Bush answer.
NOT ONE OF THESE GOVERNORS DESERVES ANY REIMBURSEMENT FROM THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT FOR COSTS INCURRED BY ILLEGAL ALIENS. THEY ALL HARBOR ILLEGALS IN THEIR OWN STATES AND DO ABSOLUTELY NOTHING TO CRACK DOWN ON THIS PROBLEM. THEY EXPECT EITHER THE U.S. TAXPAYER OR THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT TO BAIL THEM OUT.
That's why the desperate cities have been left out on a limb.
NO OTHER STATE IN THE UNION SHOULD VOTE TO BAIL OUT ANY OF THESE BORDER STATES! It is unfair to their own un-implicated residents. States who provide sanctuary should NOT be rewarded with federal payments for illegal costs of any kind. These states should make their own state residents pay for these costs and then we might see some changes in their attitudes when they try to raise taxes.
THEY THINK IF THEY BAN TOGETHER THEY WILL GET SOMETHING?
I REPEAT, NO OTHER STATE IN THE UNION SHOULD AGREE TO BAIL OUT ANY OF THESE BORDER STATES!
NO EXCUSES, NO SYMPATHY, AND NO MONEY!

Of course the illegals are already hitting us all in the wallet, but unfortunately everyone hasn't noticed yet."The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing" ** Edmund Burke**

Bredesen joins governors seeking funds for immigrant program
By John Rodgers, jrodgers@nashvillecitypaper.com
November 22, 2006
Gov. Phil Bredesen and eight other governors Tuesday asked President George W. Bush to provide states with $950 million in federal funds to offset the costs of detaining illegal immigrants.
The governors urged Bush to appropriate the money in his next budget toward the State Criminal Alien Assistance Program. Congress has previously authorized the $950 million, according to a Bredesen administration press release.
It was unclear at press time how much Tennessee would receive if the funds were appropriated.
Bredesen said the funds would “protect Tennessee taxpayers” by allowing the state to help offset the costs local communities have when jailing illegal immigrants.
“This money is critical for our criminal justice facilities – it’s especially important for local communities in our state, which bear the costs of enforcing national immigration laws every day,” Bredesen said in a statement.
Dorinda Carter, spokeswoman for the state Department of Correction, said there are 152 illegal immigrants in Tennessee prisons, and the state spends about $3.1 million annually housing them.
In fiscal year 2005, Carter said the state received $212,000 in reimbursement money as a result of imprisoning illegal immigrants. That was the latest available data at press time.
California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger, Arizona Gov. Janet Napolitano, and Iowa Gov. Tom Vilsack were three of the governors, along with Bredesen, who signed the letter.Support our FIGHT AGAINST illegal immigration & Amnesty by joining our E-mail Alerts at https://eepurl.com/cktGTn

Governors want more money for illegal immigrant prisoners
By: North County Times -
Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger signed a letter Monday asking President Bush to include $950 million in next year's federal budget to help offset the cost of jailing illegal immigrant criminals in state prisons.
Under a federal program, called the State Criminal Alien Assistance Program, states receive money to reimburse them for the cost of housing illegal immigrant inmates. But the president has proposed eliminating the program in recent years.
"Until the federal government can achieve its goal of restoring safety and security throughout our border regions, every effort should be made to compensate the state and local governments who have stepped up to fill this gap by policing and incarcerating criminal aliens at their own considerable expense," according to the letter.
Since 1990, when the payments were first written into federal law, reimbursements have shrunk. Last year, Bush proposed no funding for the program, but Congress restored $405 million, about 40 percent of which went to California. State officials say illegal immigrants cost the California prison system $750 million a year.
Governors from 10 other states also signed the letter, including those from Washington, New Jersey, Arizona and New Mexico.Support our FIGHT AGAINST illegal immigration & Amnesty by joining our E-mail Alerts at https://eepurl.com/cktGTn

I guess Florida's governor either has a lot of money or isn't arresting criminal illegal aliens, because Florida is the number 3 most invaded state and he didn't ask the federal government for assistance.
I wonder which of the two possibilities is the answer to this question?Join our efforts to Secure America's Borders and End Illegal Immigration by Joining ALIPAC's E-Mail Alerts network (CLICK HERE)
