Mexican authorities found the body of an African migrant who died shortly before arriving at the Texas border.

The case occurred this week in the border town of Piedras Negras, Coahuila, where authorities responded to a call about a body on a dirt road near the banks of the Rio Grande, law enforcement sources told Breitbart Texas.

Authorities found the body of Eric Ofosu-Mensah, 39, on a dirt road near the Periodistas neighborhood, said Santiago de Jesus Espinoza Eguía, coordinator of public ministries in Coahuila. The body was only a few feet from the river, leading authorities to believe he was trying to cross into Texas when he collapsed and died.

Espinoza also revealed that the body showed no signs of violence, leading authorities to believe he likely died from severe dehydration, a heart attack or some other nonviolent cause.

Authorities were able to identify Ofosu-Mensah through IDs she had with him when authorities found him.

Investigators will work through consular officials to contact their relatives so that the body can be repatriated.

If the body is not claimed, it will be sent to a mass grave, authorities revealed.

Since the beginning of the year, 212 migrants have died on both sides of the border in the Coahuila-Texas region, authorities told Breitbart Texas.
