MCALLEN-After Saturdays reports of gunfire and explosions, CHANNEL FIVE NEWS spoke to people traveling into and out of Reynosa, Mexico,. They say the dangers just across the border weigh heavily on their minds. Franciso Santa Cruz was on his way into Reynosa; he lives near one of the closed streets, Hidalgo Boulevard, south of the border. Two things came to mind when he became aware of the explosions. "Well first I hope there is transportation and second security." said Santa Cruz. For others the violence has become a part of their daily life. " We're use to it, the attacks are like normal to us." said Alicia Avendano. Twitter erupted early Saturday afternoon with tweets of the violence. The Reynosa government posted comments informing the public of the street closures. Followers tried making sense of it all. Many of the posts were confused and tried to figure out what was happening, others attempted to explain the situation, saying grandes exploded not only Hidalgo Boulevard but also on the La Juarez Street. CHANNEL FIVE NEWS was told a total of two people died in the attack, nine others may have been injured. Folks who live in Reynosa tell us they believe today's attack is cartel related but Mexican authorities have not released an official statement.
