Gunmen enter hospital, kill teen

NUEVO LAREDO, Mexico Heavily armed men strode into a hospital in the violence-ravaged border city of Nuevo Laredo today, killing a teen who was receiving treatment after surviving an attempt on his life hours earlier.

Seventeen-year-old Rolando Rodriguez was taken to Nuevo Laredo's Hospital General after being shot twice. Hours later, at least two gunmen entered the building and headed for the emergency room, where they shot Rodriguez to death. That's according to forensic investigator Alejandro Loredo.

Hospital staff told investigators the gunmen walked into the building calmly. The hospital is just a short distance from a police command post.

Rodriguez's death brought to 31 the number of people killed by violence so far this year in Nuevo Laredo, across the Rio Grande from Laredo, Texas. Some 181 people died violently here in 2005.

U-S and Mexican investigators say a war for territory between a pair of rival drug gangs has caused the spike in violence for months.
