Gutierrez, Buchanan square off
Gutierrez, Buchanan square off
June 25, 2007 12:01:13 AM IST
A top Hispanic member of Congress Sunday defended a proposed U.S. immigration reform bill against charges that it gives amnesty to illegal immigrants.
Pat Buchanan, a leading conservative and former candidate for the Republican presidential nomination, told NBC's Meet the Press the bill before the U.S. Senate is amnesty, pure and simple.
We've got 12 (million) to 20 million illegal aliens in this country, massive criminality being rewarded with blanket amnesty and put on a path to citizenship, said Buchanan.
However, Rep. Louis Gutierrez, D-Ill., chairman of the congressional Hispanic Caucus Immigration Task Force, said the measure is not amnesty, but is the pathway to legalization.
We have an immigration system that is broken, he said, that's a nightmare.
President George W. Bush has failed to enforce the U.S. borders, Buchanan said.
The Constitution of the United States obligates the president to defend the states from an invasion. The president himself says in his first five years, 6 million people tried to break into this country, said Buchanan. This is not immigration ... this is an invasion of this country.
The same argument that Pat makes today are the arguments that have been made in the past -- they were wrong then, they are wrong today, said Gutierrez.

Since the government failed or refused to act against Elvira Arellano hiding out in the Chicago church other religious organization are becoming emboldened. I expect this is only going to become more prevalent throughout the nation. ICE needs to put an end to this flagrant disregard for the law before it becomes as big of a problem as illegal immigration it self. Again we are watching the failure to enforce the laws against those who aid and abet grow into a bigger and spreading issue. Before you know it churches and religious organizations will be outright hiding illegal aliens and impeding law enforcement.
Democracy is two wolves and a lamb voting on what to have for lunch. Liberty is a well-armed lamb contesting the vote!

My city is applying for 287g. An article said last week that after if was announced a dozen people called a local church and asked for sanctuary.

I watched that debate and I am still reeling from the programmed lies that continue to come out of the illegal supporters mouths. Guiterrez kept saying that illegal aliens did not receive welfare and Pat Buchanan kept letting him get away with that fairy tale.

I was practically jumping through the tv when Buchanan didn't fight back about illegals not getting welfare!!! Good grief...that's one of the biggest frauds being perpetrated on America! Also, I waited for Buchanan to start talking about the Probationary Z Visas!!! Instant legalization!!! NO ONE ever ever talks about this...All these illegals want is instant legalization...!!! And that's what they will get the minute Bush signs the bill!!!!
Guitierrez makes my skin crawl!!

Gutierrez makes me ashamed of the congress. My country was never intended to be represented by trash such as this fellow exemplifies. He comes from a district in Chicago that is inhabited by illiterate scumbags. Simply because he is a bullsh*t artist he manages to get elected to congress, but this doesn't make him a congressman, it just makes him the leader of the scumbags.
