Hispanic Groups Welcome Bush's Call for Immigration Reform
Hispanic Groups Welcome Bush's Call for Immigration Reform
January 25, 2007
"Hispanic groups reacted with optimism Wednesday to President George W. Bush's call in his State of the Union address for congressional passage of immigration reform including guest-worker provisions and a path toward legal residence for many undocumented foreigners working in the United States.
"We're pleased that the president has confirmed his commitment to reform on something we have to move forward on," Michele Waslin, the director of immigration policy for the National Council of La Raza, told Efe.
However, she warned that the reform needs to include the legalization of the country's estimated 12 million undocumented immigrants "and respect for human rights."

Reading the last paragraph is very important.
"But politicians also will be under pressure from another quarter. The U.S. Chamber of Congress, which with its 3 million members is the largest business federation in the world, has committed itself to use its influence to promote immigration reform that includes a guest worker program."
Here's why.
John Gay's Unholy Alliance
'Big Immigration' Terrorizes Washington
His name is John Gay and at the moment he's the most feared man in Washington.
Politicians are so freaked out by Gay that a sizable segment of the Republican Party, including the president, is willing to risk the party's control of Congress after this fall's elections to keep him happy.
If Gay gets his way, within 15 years the GOP will have a hard time winning a presidential race again because the 60 million largely Hispanic immigrants Gay wants to bring to this country vote Democratic at least 60 percent of the time. Yet the GOP is still struggling to decide -- Gay or the future of the party?
The Democrats, not to be outdone, have included an identical version of the immigration legislation Gay's buddies wrote in their bills, too. That's because what John Gay wants, John Gay gets.

Guess it depends on what you read. I heard many weren't happy about his speech. People do tend to hear what they want to hear.

I think that's true, people do hear what they want too.
What I heard was a lot of the same old BS and an unmoved stance from the President.
I think if he's allowed George would sign off on an outrageous bold faced amnesty.
Only the heavy duty pressure he gets from activists like us and the now from the huge numbers of everyday Americans keeps him from doing the unthinkable.
