Once upon a time in Georgia: 3 Illegal Immigrants filed laws

Once upon a time, there were three illegal immigrants who filed a lawsuit in Georgia....

Three illegal immigrants in Georgia are suing that state claiming that the so-called "287 program" is unconstitutional because law enforcement officials haven't been properly trained by ICE and that ICE has "improperly delegated its power to local authorities." The effort here is to make it a class action suit by claiming hundreds of thousands of illegal immigrants who they claim are "victims" of the law that seeks to deport them. http://www.ajc.com/news/lawsuit-challen ... 83035.html

    Really?

Let's just examine who these three plaintiffs are, shall we?

The first plaintiff came here legally from Mexico but overstayed her visa. This wasn't noticed randomly, but after she got into a car accident and it was discovered that she didn't have a driver's license.

The second plaintiff was arrested on charges of shoplifting and claims that she should be allowed to stay until her criminal case is resolved.

The third plaintiff came here legally from El Salvador but was arrested when authorities claimed he attempted to use forged documents to renew a driver's license.

The case claims that local authorities are overstepping their bounds when enforcing federal law. Pretty ridiculous stuff. Can there be any doubt that the feds are overwhelmed, outmanned and outgunned by the tidal wave of humanity flooding our borders hourly? And it is the local law enforcement that is confronted with the bulk of the problems and havoc that illegal immigration wrecks upon a community. It is the local jails that are filled to the rafters with illegal immigrants who commit one crime or another. To have a tool such as the "287 law" would be critical in the arsenal against this growing problem.

The claim from the attorney who files the case is that the three main plaintiffs are not criminals. Well, yes they are. They may not be serial killers, but they have each broken the law on more than one occasion. Forgery, shoplifting and whatever charges associated with the car accident are not major crimes, but they certainly show a willingness to break the law when they feel the ends justify the means.

I can completely understand why people from across the globe want to be here in America. Most of us came from ancestors who made the tough journey to get here and then worked their hearts out to become proud Americans with something to contribute to the country.

The only thing most of these early immigrants wanted was opportunity. They didn't come to this nation with their hands out and a laundry list of what they felt entitled to. Instead, they just wanted the freedom to apply their God-given talents and raise their children in a better life than what their home nation offered them.

These three felt clearly entitled to all that America had to offer, no matter what they had to do.

It is just absolutely flat out wrong no matter what the excuse.

There is one thing that should cross our borders and become a part of this country's legal system and that is the concept of "Loser Pays." The rest of the world has this provision in their court system, otherwise known as the "English Rule" which states that he who loses the lawsuit pays the cost of the case. It seriously limits frivolous lawsuits like this one and helps to free the courts docket for more important cases -- like forgery and shoplifting, for instance.
