El Paso border agents deploy to provide support with incoming migrant caravan

    Thursday, November 15th 2018

U.S. Customs and Border Protection El Paso Sector deployment on Thursday, Nov. 15, 2018.

EL PASO, Texas (KFOX14) — On Thursday, officers with the U.S. Customs and Border Protection El Paso sector left to help with the response to the approaching caravan.

CPP officers from the El Paso, Santa Teresa and Tornillo ports of entry boarded an aircraft Thursday at the El Paso International Airport.

More than 100 officers are headed to Arizona and California to help with crowd control and processing, according to CBP union president John Monahan.

Members of a migrant caravan began showing up Monday in the Mexican border city of Tijuana.

On Sunday, CBP said the deployment of its officers will impact wait times at El Paso area ports beginning Wednesday.

Monahan said CBP has already deployed 573 CBP officers and 257 U.S. Border Patrol agents from different parts of the country to Southern California and Arizona.

Help these invaders onto a barge in San Diego and let the Navy and Coast Guard ship them home!

    Mexico does not want them!

Do not dump them on us...we do not want them!

NO MAN, WOMEN OR CHILD SHOULD BE ALLOWED IN.

    GO HOME!!!

So they are being sent to speed up the entry process.

Now, who is guarding the Texas border? Never mind, Border Patrol is only a welcoming committee and rescue unit to assist the invaders.

El Paso Border Patrol Sector not sending agents to help with migrant caravan

    by Claudia Tristán
    Thursday, November 15th 2018

EL PASO, Texas (KFOX14) — U.S. Border Patrol in El Paso Sector has confirmed no agents will be making their way out west to help with the migrant caravan at this time.

Instead, they're still working to fill a shortage they're seeing right here in El Paso to continue protecting our borders.
"Over the last few months especially we're seeing a lot more family units," Agent Joe Romero said.

Romero said in the last three months there have been about 10,000 apprehensions within the El Paso Sector -- all while the sector remains short-staffed.

"For the El Paso Sector we’re authorized about 2,400 agents. We’re about 250 agents below that number," Romero said.
According to Romero, nationally the federal agency is about 2,000 agents short.

With the local shortage, it could be difficult for El Paso Sector to help with the migrant caravan.
"At this point, there are no plans to send any agents from the El Paso Sector to any other sector to assist. However depending on how things happen things can always change," Romero said.

Local agents have had to deal with a growing amount of activity in the area as trends shift across the southwest border.
"Historically El Paso over the last 10 years saw a pretty steady decrease in the amount of activity happening in this area. But in the last couple of years we’ve slowly seen an uptick to include his last year," Romero said.

In 2018 so far El Paso Sector is second for the most apprehensions of unaccompanied minors. That's out of nine sectors in the southwest border.

When it comes to total apprehensions in the southwest, El Paso is among the top five for 2018.
Romero believes the busiest sectors shift as immigrants use other routes to cross illegally.

"It’s an ebb and flow; we anticipate that as a whole these transitions will continue to happen," Romero said.
For the month of October, El Paso Sector apprehended about 1,500 immigrants.

Congressman Cuellar questions border patrol shift to California as U.S. troops move into Texas

WASHINGTON – While federal troops pour into Texas, border Congressman Henry Cuellar is raising the alarm over the deployment of 575 Texas U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers to California to meet a caravan of asylum seekers from Central America who have started arriving in the border city of Tijuana.

"Newsweek reported that U.S. Army North will shift roughly 400 military police officers from the port of entry in Brownsville, Texas, to the San Ysidro Land Port of Entry in San Diego over the next three days, according to a Defense Department source with knowledge of the southern border mission. The military police officers will support Border Patrol agents as the initial wave of migrants reaches the California-Mexico border."
