I.C.E. RIDE Program. Driver's Licenses Records from DMVs for E-Verify
DRIVER’S LICENSE VERIFICATION
Records and Information from DMVs for E-Verify (RIDE)
Nearly 80 percent of employees present a driver’s license or state issued identification (ID) card as proof of identity for E-Verify. The Records and Information from DMVs for E-Verify (RIDE) program is an ongoing USCIS initiative that links E-Verify with participating state departments of motor vehicles (DMVs). It allows E-Verify to verify the validity of driver’s license and ID card information by matching the data entered by employers against records from participating state DMVs. RIDE enables two-part verification by validating the information on select identity documents in addition to the existing employment authorization check.
For Employers
RIDE provides employers with even greater confidence in the responses from E-Verify through two-part verification that helps lessen identity-document-based fraud. When an employee presents a driver’s license or ID card from a participating RIDE state, employers will be asked to provide information from that document for verification. Please see the map below for participating states as well as directions on how to enter information from those documents.
For State DMVs
Participation in RIDE is made easy through a partnership between USCIS and the American Association of Motor Vehicle Administrators (AAMVA). By taking advantage of existing technology that DMVs use today, USCIS is able to provide an easy path to joining RIDE with minimal effort and few resources needed on the part of the state. There is no cost for participation, and states are reimbursed for work associated with the project.
RIDE also strengthens E-Verify for the employers in participating states and helps to identify the use of potential fraudulent driver licenses and state-issued ID cards.
If you are associated with your state DMV and would like to receive more information about participating in RIDE, please contact the RIDE program(link sends email).
