Website Brings Together Over 200 Top Immigration Experts

New ProCon.org Website Brings Together Over 200 Top Immigration Experts to Determine Solutions to Illegal Immigration in America

Amnesty, Deportation, U.S.-Mexico Border Wall, Net Effect on U.S. Economy,
and Recent Congressional Legislation Debated Using Pros and Cons Format

SANTA MONICA, Calif., Nov. 26 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Researchers at
ProCon.org solicited perspectives from over 200 diverse immigration experts
to create an in-depth and nonpartisan exploration of the primary question
"What are the solutions to illegal immigration in America?"

The results of this research are available at http://www.immigrationprocon.org
    - the 12th website launched by ProCon.org.

The U.S. Department of Homeland Security estimates that 11.6 million
unauthorized immigrants live in America as of January 2006. Whether and how
to reduce that number has become a focus of debate throughout the United
    States.

To explore this debate, the ProCon.org website poses 49 specific
questions in topics ranging from taxes and the economy to Minutemen and
militarizing the borders to driver's licenses and amnesty.

Each question has corresponding pro and con statements from individuals
and organizations with clear and relevant opinions on that specific topic.
Each one of those sources has a corresponding biography so that readers can
examine the background, affiliations, education, and other pertinent
    information about each source.

Examples of the 200+ sources referenced by ProCon.org include: Michael
Chertoff, Bill Clinton, Jim Gilmore, John McCain, National Council of La
Raza, Phyllis Schlafly, Urban Institute, and dozens of scholars,
economists, politicians, attorneys, activists, and immigrant groups.

Some interesting facts highlighted on the website include:

    * 186,000 undocumented immigrants were deported in 2006 according to U.S.
Immigration and Customs Enforcement. That same year there were an
estimated 11.6 million undocumented immigrants living in America.

    * 57% of the unauthorized immigrant population in America (as of 2006) is
    from Mexico.

    * An estimated 3.1 million American children have at least one illegal
    alien parent.
Managing Editor of ProCon.org, Kamy Akhavan, commented:

"As more and more of our readers asked us to tackle illegal
immigration, we knew that Americans needed an unbiased and simple way to
understand this topic and make informed choices on the matter.

The ideological factions battling over illegal immigration issues
seemed unable or possibly unwilling to understand other perspectives, so we
presented their competing statements side-by-side in a nonpartisan format.

We invested about 1,500 hours and tens of thousands of dollars
researching the issue, interviewing experts, getting great quotes, and
compiling hard to find data in an easy to use format.

We're proud of the result, and we believe that our website will be a
valuable tool for policy makers, journalists, scholars, students, and
anyone generally interested in learning more about illegal immigration."

Im not sure it takes 200 Experts come up with the answers that problem.
Im Glad to see they are non profit and No Government intervention.
My daughters 7th grade class was ask what to do one day and they came up with just about the same thing 17 said deportation and enforce the law. 3 where out sick and the other 4 didn’t answer the question. easy enough if a 7 grade scholar can answer it they did a few things about let them go to church till they get home and make sure they ain’t sick and stuff. One kid said don’t let them die. it was really cool.

I will Be real interested in what these guys and Gals come up with.

I watched a show over the Break on cspan where the experts on there had a ton of right out in left field stuff and nothing but excuses on Mexico but one or two did have some good stuff to say.
wonder what these guys will say now that its been right out in the open again that terrorist are coming in to America from down there

It seemed like a great idea. However, I looked through it and I wasn't very impressed. To be honest - there does seem to be a bias. Anyone else think so?

Sounds more like they are compiling information from existing info out there, not like they have invited Chertoff and Schlafly to work together or put their names behind this org's efforts.

Key term is that they are 'sources' not participants that agreed to do anything.

Smelling more like an OBL trick.
