CEDAR RAPIDS (AP) - An illegal immigrant from Guatemala has pleaded guilty to document fraud and identity theft in federal court in Iowa.

Vicente Machic-Tasej entered the plea Monday in U.S. District Court in Cedar Rapids.

Court records show that Machic-Tasej presented a fake permanent
residency card to get a job at a business in Sherill, Iowa, in July 2008. The fake card allegedly contained an alien registration number assigned to someone else.

Records also show that Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents searched a Postville business in May 2008 and seized a immigration form for Machic-Tasej with a photocopy of a different fake registration card and a different, invalid registration number.

Sentencing wasn't immediately set.
